How We Met

A Penn State Love Story

It was the first day of freshman year when Nataliya and Matt walked into their honors biology class at Penn State. Nataliya was quick to notice the cute guy showing up late and sitting in the back of the room. Over the semester, they chatted sporadically—mostly when Matt was scrambling for homework answers. Nataliya soon learned that Matt was rushing the same fraternity as her childhood friend (shoutout to Paul), which meant they would continue to see each other around campus at parties and events over the years. It wasn’t until senior year that sparks really began to fly. They found themselves around each other constantly, whether at football tailgates, bonfires at Matt’s senior house, or downtown bars. Over winter break, Matt took Nataliya on their first date ice skating in Bryant Park, and in January 2020, he finally asked her to be his girlfriend—making senior year that much sweeter. And then, as we all know, COVID happened. Despite the global pandemic, Matt and Nataliya knew they wanted to spend what was left of their senior year together at their favorite place: Penn State. Their love grew tenfold as they discovered more about each other, including their shared love of cooking, board games, and IPAs. After graduation, Matt moved to the city and started working while Nataliya began grad school. From Mets games and trivia Tuesdays to pickleball in the park, their adventures in New York City helped their love continue to blossom. In March 2025, they moved into their first apartment together on the Upper West Side. Just a few months later, in August 2025, Matt got down on one knee in Central Park and asked Nataliya to spend the rest of their lives together. She obviously said yes! They celebrated with family in the living room of their quaint apartment—a perfect ending to a perfect day and the beginning of the newest chapter of their lives.

FAQs

Question

Can I bring a date / plus one?

Answer

Your invitation will indicate who is invited. If it includes a plus one, you’ll see their name listed. We’d love to keep things intimate, so we’re only able to accommodate those listed on the invitation. Thank you for understanding!

Question

Can I bring my kids?

Answer

As much as we love your little ones, we’ve decided to keep our wedding an adults-only celebration. We hope you’ll take this as an opportunity to enjoy a fun, relaxing night out, kid-free! Thank you for understanding and helping us make this day special.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

The dress code for our wedding is formal. For men, a suit with a dress shirt and tie is perfect. A tuxedo is also welcome, but not required. Women are asked to wear long or midi formal dresses. Our cocktail hour and reception will be outside and so we recommend ladies wear a block heel or a shoe that you will be comfortable walking on grass in. We can’t wait to see you looking your best as we celebrate together!

Question

Are the ceremony and reception at the same venue?

Answer

No. Since we are doing a church mass, the ceremony will be at a nearby church while the cocktail hour, reception and after party will be at Pioneer Farm. We will be providing shuttle service between our selected hotels and the reception venue both prior to cocktail hour and after wedding festivities. Please look out for a detailed shuttle schedule to come!

Question

Is transportation provided?

Answer

We are asking guests to arrange their own transportation to the church ceremony. Following the ceremony, we will be providing transportation from select hotels to Pioneer Farm for cocktail hour / reception and back at the end of the night. Please note, ubers can be tricky to book in the area, especially later in the evening.

Question

Is parking available at the venue?

Answer

Yes, the venue will be able to accommodate parking for those wishing to drive to the cocktail hour and reception.

Question

Are there hotel blocks?

Answer

Yes! Please see the 'Hotels and Travel' page on our wedding website to book a room for the wedding weekend. We recommend booking a room as soon as you finalize your rsvp.

Question

What time should I arrive?

Answer

We are requesting all guests arrive at the church by 1:45 to ensure you find your seat in time for the ceremony to begin at 2 pm promptly.

Question

Will there be other wedding events?

Answer

Yes! Everyone is welcome to join us the Friday evening before our wedding to a welcome drinks celebration. Please rsvp to welcome drinks separately so we can get a head count of how many guests we can expect to join us!

Question

Can I take photos during the ceremony?

Answer

We kindly request guests refrain from using their phones to take any photos or videos during our wedding ceremony. We have hired a great team of photographers and videographers that will commit their time to capturing every moment.
