Twas a warm September evening in 2019 when Daniel arrived at a wedding in Grand Haven, MI, that he had nearly no business attending. Just weeks prior, he was having dinner with a friend's friends, and feigned being offended that he was not invited to their wedding - securing himself a one-way ticket to free food. Little did he know, he was in for much more than a meal. He arrived that evening to find himself at the friends table with someone new. Wedding festivities unfolded as usual, while Dan stole glances across the table and found opportunities to engage the new person named Emily. For example, he complained about his green beans being cold, which Emily sassily corrected, and Dan stated, "you can't tell me how I feel about my green beans." (This is a life lesson, folks). When it came time for dessert, he made a point to call her a degenerate for eating her cupcake like a proper human being. (I wonder who could be writing this ...). He clearly has game. They spent a magical evening, together, dancing and bantering before it came to an abrupt end. They never even exchanged contact information. Emily returned to Traverse City. Dan returned to Grand Rapids. On December 4th, 2021 - just over 2 years later - Emily was pulling potatoes out of the oven at Friendsgiving when Dan walked in the door. Emily was stunned, and could only say, "you." Dan said, "me." Emily's heart raced, never expecting to get to see Dan, again. Dan did not know how much Emily had enjoyed their evening that mythical night in September 2019. While seated at Friendsgiving dinner, Dan made a joke about the turkey being sick then cured, and Emily laughed too hard and ran away. After collecting the courage to talk to Dan, Emily cornered him by the pool table. He said he wondered whether Emily would be there, and Emily melted. They spent the rest of the night playing pool and bantering until 5am. Dan had to work the next morning, so the conversation ended with Dan's smooth suggestion that Emily "get ahold of me if you're ever in Grand Rapids." Emily giggled and they exchanged phone numbers, not willing to let what happened last time happen again. They've spoken every day, since. Their first date was December 11, 2021, via Skype and lasted 8.5hrs. In August 2022, Emily moved to Grand Rapids to find out if they still liked each other while dating in the same city. Spoiler: things went well. In March 2023, they started playing music, together (Dan plays a mean guitar while Emily sings). In July 2023, they purchased a home in Grand Rapids, together, and spend their days wrangling their three doggies. They are excited to share at least 5 billion days, together.
