We met in a most millenial way, via a dating app. Our first date was technically the first time we met in-person. Heather could not get the profile of the woman holding a mint julep in one hand wearing a fascinator while standing in front of recycling bins out of her head. The smile on her face was mirthful and charming so she swiped right and waited. Tara was giving the swiping game one more try in the fall of 2020. She took note of a witty profile of a blue-eyed lady who liked wine, playing cards, hiking, and vegan?!? She waited to swipe right as how does a foodie date a vegan? Those blue-eyes and wit prevailed, she swiped right. Days followed of witty banter along with election hopes and fears. A date was set for our meeting. Tara planned an urban hike for our date; carefully crafted from beginning to end, spending time together out doors in the not quite post-Covid world. We strolled the streets of DC fully masked with our hard seltzers in hand. We stopped for a snack and a glass of wine then continued our walk to dinner. We said goodnight not quite 6 feet apart as we hopped into separate cars. Heather was not quite ready for the evening to end, she texted Tara: "would you like to watch a movie?" Remember Netflix's Teleparty? So we telepartied our way through likely some rom-com that Heather picked but neither of us actually remembers. Movie nights continue to be a favorite Friday ritual, now in the same house with takeout and a bottle of wine.
