The trailhead begins near the driveway of the venue. 11.42 mile loop trail. (Difficult)
1.3 miles south of the house. California State beach that is popular for swimming, surfing, and windsurfing.
0.8 miles south of the venue. Begin by crossing wooden steps over the fence on the west side of the highway to the open grassy field of the wide marine terrace (often thick with brush off the trail) to the cliff edge and then follow the trail southwest along the cliff side with great ocean and coastal views. The hike is about 3/4’s of a mile.
3.8 miles away from the venue. Note: Willow Creek flows down this rough and towering canyon and pools next to the cliff. A narrow road leads down from the parking area on the west side of Highway 1 under the towering concrete highway bridge to a spot next to the beach where there is room for about ten cars. The beach is littered with large boulders and, on examination, jade stones can be found. The sandy beach is around the corner to the right. This is becoming a more popular car stop at the highway level but at times, you might have the beach to yourself. Exercise caution during high tide. Wave action can be unexpected and powerful at times
The Cruickshank trail is an accessible and moderate hike of a little over five miles that has beautiful ocean views and wanders through oaks trees and Redwood canyons. Cruickshank trail begins Highway 1 into the Silver Peak Wilderness and ends at the South Coast Ridge Road. The Buckeye Trail which heads southeast to Salmon Creek or northwest to Buckeye Camp crosses Cruickshank trail about halfway along the trail
You can safely view a large colony of Elephant Seals lazing on the beach year-round from the boardwalk and viewing area. It is a popular stop, and there is ample parking.
One of the most famous homes in the US. It took decades of work by skilled workers and artisans to transform a wilderness California hilltop into a 90,000 square foot fantasy Mediterranean backdrop for the Hearst family and celebrity gatherings. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone, or at the site itself in person. http://hearstcastle.org/tour-hearst-castle/tour-tickets-pricing/
