FAQs

Question

Where can I book accommodations and lodging?

Answer

We have reserved a hotel block at the Aloft hotel in Cascade Station, which 5 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from the venue. Please see the travel page for details.

Question

What should I know about the venue?

Answer

The community reception will be held at the local Tibetan community center (4401 NE 122nd Ave, Portland, OR 97230). The venue is approximately 10 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from downtown Portland (without traffic). Onsite and street parking are available.

Question

What can I expect at the community reception?

Answer

The celebration will begin with the bride and groom arriving in a wedding party procession to the stage. Guests will then come forward one by one to offer a kathak (ceremonial silk scarves will be provided if you don’t have your own). Speeches will take place throughout the ceremony. Dinner will follow the scarf ceremony, with cultural performances during the meal. After dinner, tables will be cleared for gorshey (a traditional Tibetan circle dance), followed by a dance party to end the night.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

We encourage guests to wear traditional Tibetan attire. Otherwise, formal, black tie, or cocktail attire is welcome.

Question

What about wedding gifts?

Answer

In keeping with Tibetan wedding traditions, we kindly invite guests to offer a shokcha (a customary cash gift).
