Our Story

June 24th, 2018

Picture this: the largest pyramid in the world. Not the famous one in Giza, but the beautiful Cholula pyramid in Puebla, Mexico. It was a quiet Sunday afternoon. Justin and his friends and roommates were perched on the grassy slopes, enjoying the sunset and the majestic and active Popocatépetl volcano. Suddenly, Justin spotted Selene approaching the group. Her smile was radiant, her energy boundless, and her walk – well, she practically skipped! (This is a quirk of hers, you see.) Selene's roommate, who also happened to be Justin's former roommate, had invited her along. They didn't talk much that afternoon, Justin and Selene. But a spark ignited with a simple exchange of glances. A few weeks later, Justin left for a month-long trip to Spokane. But even with the distance, a connection remained – they'd already started following each other on Instagram. Upon his return, their paths crossed again at a small gathering, and this time, they truly clicked. That afternoon, their conversation flowed for hours. And from then on, they were inseparable. Days, weeks, months, even years melted into a whirlwind of shared experiences. Now, after more than five years together, their love story takes another turn – they're getting married! And they want you to be part of their celebration, a joyous testament to the power of love.

How we got engaged

February 10th, 2023

On a beautiful vacation in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, with Selene's parents by their side, Justin was about to pop the question. Months earlier, he'd confided in Selene's father about his intentions, knowing this trip would be the perfect moment. Under the warm glow of the setting sun, Justin had arranged a surprise photo shoot with a local photographer. As the photographer expertly guided Selene through poses – "hand on your waist, chin up a little higher" – Justin stood patiently behind her. Then, with a knowing wink, the photographer instructed, "Turn and look at Justin." This captured the exact moment when Justin got down on one knee. Tears of happiness welled up in Selene's eyes as she uttered a resounding "yes!" The celebration continued with the arrival of a mariachi band. As the music filled the air, Selene and Justin danced on the soft sand until the stars emerged, making their perfect proposal an unforgettable memory.

Wedding Party

Selene

Bride

Justin

Groom

Zury

Bridesmaid

Zury has been Selene's bestie for 16 years. They both hail from Hidalgo, and they met on Selene's birthday. They have had countless adventures together, such as spending a winter in Toronto at -40 degrees Celsius and trying to ski for the first time. They fell down over and over again, and they decided that the mountain was only suitable for experts. In the end, they realized that they were on the "Bunny Hill."

Miriam

Bridesmaid

Miriam and Selene have been through thick and thin together. They met 12 years ago when Miriam was looking for recommendations for apartments for rent in Cholula. They quickly became friends and even went on a road trip to Tequila, Jalisco, just a few days after meeting. Since then, they have traveled together to many places in Mexico, as well as Germany and Brazil. Selene says that Miriam is the one who has always inspired her to travel. Their friendship is truly one of a kind.

Yuritzi

Bridesmaid

This pair of besties met at Selene's old job some years ago. They are simply partners in crime, as they spent more time together than with their families. They have always been unconditionally supportive of each other, turning the daily grind into fun and endless conversations. They are always there for each other, no matter what. They are always up for an adventure, and they always have each other's backs. They travel together to Las Vegas for a bachelorette party of one of their friends, but things happen in Vegas, stay in Vegas.

Carmen

Bridesmaid

Carmen and Selene's friendship has its roots in the vibrant town of Metztitlán Hidalgo, where they met during their elementary school days. Their bond deepened over countless afternoons spent together, whether playing at each other's homes, watching movies, or embarking on bicycle adventures with their siblings. Their friendship has only grown stronger over the years, weathering the test of time and distance. They've shared countless adventures, from indulging in pasta and wine on the streets of Capri, Italy, to savoring mojitos and cigars in the sun-kissed Varadero, Cuba.

Tanner

Best Man

Justin and Tanner's friendship stretches way back to Mullan Road Elementary's third grade. Back then, Justin, a Chicago transplant, was the new kid. But the schoolyard became their shared stomping ground, graduating from elementary to middle to high school together. Their adventures weren't limited to classrooms; they embarked on church mission trips, soaked up countless days at Hayden Lake, and even tackled busy shifts at a local restaurant. Tanner has always been Justin's champion, pushing him to reach for more. He motivated Justin to get fit and even nudged him towards popping the question to Selene. Once a skinny band geek is now one of Seattle´s best Firefighters, and of course Justin’s go to partner in crime.

Pedro

Groomsman

Puebla, Mexico. Junior year abroad. A random roommate pairing. For Justin and Pedro, this wasn't just a change of scenery – it was the beginning of a remarkable friendship. Their Mexican adventures continued well into their senior year at Seattle U. From working side-by-side at the same restaurant to early morning swim lessons (where Pedro patiently coached Justin!), their friendship thrived. Late-night drinks after class a few times led to Pedro crashing on Justin's couch, a testament to their growing bond. This eventually led to a life-changing decision: Pedro followed Justin back to Puebla. There, Pedro got married and even works with Justin at the same amazing company!

Andrés

Groomsman

Twelve years ago, Justin embarked on a Mexican adventure for his study abroad program. While excitement for new experiences buzzed in his head, he never imagined finding a brother from another mother south of the border. Enter Andrés. Justin, fresh off the plane and living with a family member (his grandma!), was immediately welcomed into Andrés' world. Their days became a whirlwind of shared meals, epic video game battles, sweat-drenched soccer matches, and yes, even a crash course in Mexican swear words (essential for any good adventure, right?). Those countless hours forged a bond that would span borders and define a lifelong friendship.

Lili & Enrique

Wedding Godparents

Selene's brother and sister-in-law, Justin's godparents, have shared wonderful family moments in Metztitlán and at the Valeria ranch. The four of them have a strong bond and always look out for each other. Without a doubt, they are the best godparents anyone could ask for.
