3:00 pm - 11:45 pm
Casual Attire: Anything goes, from sundresses and sandals to jeans and tees.
This is a beach picnic, ideally a potluck-style but you can choose whether you want to share food or not. We are vegan, but you don't have to be to participate. We will have some homemade plant-based baked goods to share, at least one of which will be gluten-free / soy-free / nut-free. There's also grill for all to use; we'll provide foil to prevent cross-contamination for those with dietary restrictions. The beach directly adjacent to the sauna is great for picnic blankets/camp chairs/hammocks. **NB: The grill (and sauna) are only reserved from 17-22.30.**
5:00 pm - 10:30 pm
Beach Attire: Swimsuits and sandals are welcome and customary in a mixed gender Finnish sauna, but we will not require these.
Temperatures in mid-August range from highs of up to 23 degrees Celsius to lows of around 9 degrees at night, and it can be chilly by the sea so please have adequate layers on hand for after sauna. This is extra important if you'll camp - you'll probably want a hat, gloves, and wool socks. For sauan itself, you'll need a pefletti (butt towel), shower shoes, towel, and swimsuit if you like. We recommend a robe/sarong for walking to the sea and mingling if you choose to forgo a swimsuit - the sauna can only hold so many people, so there may be some time waiting outside or queuing for a seat. Otherwise, you'll want to bring food/drinks, a beach blanket/camp chair, a sweatshirt/jacket and pants in case the evening gets chilly. There is a refrigerator available for use in the sauna until 22.30, but it needs to be left clean at this time. Please be mindful of the sauna rules, linked below.
Sat, Aug 16, 2025, 8:00 pm - Sun, Aug 17, 2025, 12:00 pm
Camping Gear & Attire: Anything goes, but you'll definitely want to have warm layers, a couple pairs of woolly socks, a beanie and gloves, and some camp shoes.
We will camp in the nearby wooded area/forest. If you want to join, welcome to do so! If you decide to camp, please observe Everyman's Right - especially regarding campfires. If you'd like to cook, you'll need a camp stove. (We've linked more info on Everyman's Right - the right to roam and enjoy nature - below.) We recommend camping in the forest nearby rather than on the beach, but it should be safe to pitch tents in this area and leave them ready for after the picnic/sauna - it's unlikely anyone would rob you, but always better to keep valuables with you to be safe.
This is a beach picnic, ideally potluck-style but you can choose whether you want to share food or not. We are vegan so please respect this if you share specifically with us. We will also have some homemade plant-based baked goods to share, at least one of which will be gluten-free / soy-free / nut-free. There's a grill for all to use; we'll provide foil to prevent cross-contamination for those with dietary restrictions. The beach is directly adjacent to the sauna and it's a great place for picnic blankets/camp chairs/hammocks. We'll bring a SUP (Stand-Up Paddleboard) that we're happy to share - feel free to bring your own SUP/kayak or to arrive via SUP/boat. **NB: The sauna and grill are only reserved from 17-22.30.** Bring: food/drinks, beach blanket/camp chair, towel, shower shoes, pefletti (butt towel), swimsuit, sweatshirt/jacket and pants in case the evening gets chilly.

Temperatures can go down to 8/9 degrees Celsius in mid-August, and up to about 23 at midday. So to camp, you'll need warm layers, a couple pairs of woolly socks, gloves/mittens, a beanie, and some camp shoes. There are plenty of woods/forest by the sauna and beach. We'd suggest camping in the woods rather than on the beach, to preserve others' "saunarauhaa" (roughly, peaceful sauna experience). We won't reserve the first morning shift on Sunday, which could begin as early as 9.00. In Jollas/Laajasalo it should be safe to pitch tents in the afternoon/evening and leave them ready to sleep in as long as you're a reasonable distance from any homes or buildings. Robberies are uncommon but not unheard of. If you decide to camp with us, please observe the cultural norms of Everyman's Right. In particular, NO FIRES are allowed outside a designated fire circle - use a camp stove if you want to heat any food. More information about what's expected within Everyman's Right below:
You'll want to leave from Herttoniemi metro station - from there, you can come by bus #85 (Herttoniemi Metro station toward Jollas) or Citybike (https://www.hsl.fi/en/citybikes/helsinki) departing from Herttoniemi (M) to Jollas (at Takilatie stop on Bus #85) From here, it's about a 9 minute walk to the sauna. Route planners: HSL: https://shorturl.at/zeEec Google: https://shorturl.at/ZxlGH Coming by car: There are about 15 free parking spaces around the rocky roundabout and in the yard of Villa Furuvik (yellow villa). There's also some parking along Furuvikintie, but please do not leave cars on the trail leading to the beach.
Ideally, one week out. But we want to celebrate with as many of our friends and loved ones as possible and don't want to overcomplicate things. Please try not to call or text either of us during the event though - we'll be focused on visiting with our loved ones so we probably won't be able to answer.
Absolutely! You can also bring a friend, your entire throuple, members of your polycule, your work bestie, your sister visiting from out of town, your cousin's ex, your mom and dad... our parents won't be there, but we're pretty chill about yours. Just remember that the more people, the longer the queues for the sauna.
Yes, that's fine. Just make sure to tell us if we try to eat it, because we are fully plant-based and Em can't have eggs or dairy for health reasons anyway. Please use foil on the shared grill too, we'll bring some to help prevent cross-contamination - this is important not only for us but because since some on the guest list have different food sensitivities, cultural dietary restrictions, and/or food allergies and we want everyone to be able to celebrate with us without falling ill.
We will confirm this soon - leaning toward yes, if they're well-behaved and you can keep an eye on them or leave them with friends. We won't allow them in the sauna though - it's really not good for them, and seeing as how dogs can't sweat like we do there's not really any point to letting them in there. We will not have our Falafel with us for this one, though.
Sure, but this is primarily a grown-up party - we won't be imbibing heavily if at all, but others might be and are welcome to. If you want to bring your kids, please remember we do tend to swear like sailors and won't be trying to censor ourselves.
No, we are not. We don't require any gifts, your presence is more than enough - if you do bring a gift, please make sure it's small enough to easily carry home.
Public transportation can be a bit spotty after about 11 pm - the metro won't run, but you can still use Citybikes and there's a good night bus too. Coming by Citybike: Get a bike from Herttoniemi (M) and ride to Jollas Citybike station (located next to the Takilatie stops on Bus #85/# 85N) Also, the night bus #85N goes directly to Helsinki Central Railway Station (Helsinginrautieasema) from the - the trip length would be about 28 minutes. More info on buses: From Herttoniemi, Furuvik can be reached by HSL bus 85 and at night, 85N. The bus stop closest to Furuvik is: TAKILANTIE H4135, on Jollaksentie. The returning buses leave from TAKILANTIE H4136 - bus 85's terminus is Herttoniemi metro station, and bus 85N ends at Rautatientori (Helsinki Central Railway Station). The walking distance from both buses and Citybikes to Furuvik is about 700m (9 minutes). If you do want to stay and you're not a camper, you could try this hotel: https://jollas89.fi/en/accommodation We'll enquire about a block of rooms with a discount and update here if we the hotel agrees, but we're not holding our breaths on this. We haven't stayed here ourselves, though.
