Travel

The Wedding Website of Savannah Schell and Joshua Hummel
Flight options, hotels, and other transportation recommendations for our out-of-state travelers. We recommend flying into Sea-Tac and utilizing a rental car to move around. BLI is our local airport, however it is usually much more expensive to fly into. Wedding weekend events will be taking place over a variety of locations across the county. Additionally, we will not be reserving hotel blocks for this event. Many folks traveling to our wedding have specific accommodation needs or will be staying with family. With that in mind, we will not have the minimum amount of rooms needed to reserve a hotel block required by most hotels. There are lots of options across different price points to choose from. Below are some of our recommendations:

Rental Car

SeaTac Rental Car Facility

3150 South 160th Street, SeaTac, WA 98188

We highly recommend securing a rental car for our out-of-town travelers as rideshare is often expensive and less reliable out here. Take this as an opportunity to see some of the beautiful sites in our state!

Hotel

Wild Iris Inn

121 Maple Avenue, La Conner, WA 98257

Closest option to the venue (5 minutes), a very cute, rustic stay in downtown La Conner

Hotel

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Burlington by IHG

900 Andis Road, Burlington, WA 98233

Located in Burlington, this stay is 12 minutes away from the venue and is a great option for those on a budget!

Hotel

Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Burlington

9384 Old Highway 99 North, Burlington, WA 98233

Located 15 minutes away from the venue, this is one of the more budget friendly stays in the area!

Hotel

Postcard Cabins Skagit Valley

21802 Washington 9, Mount Vernon, WA 98274

This one is further away from the ceremony (30 minutes), as it is located in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie Forest, however this is a stay for folks that are looking for a gorgeous Washington State getaway and for some more adventure!

Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Savannah Schell and Joshua Hummel
We are so excited to share some of our favorite places with you! We have recommendations for Mt. Vernon, Bellingham, and Seattle. No matter where you're staying or how long you are here in Washington State, there is something for everyone!
Artist Point

Artist Point

Deming, WA 98244

This place is an absolute MUST when visiting northwest Washington! Located at the end of Highway 542, Artist point is a great spot for a sunset picnic and world class hiking in North Cascades. Our favorite trails are Table Mountain (where we got engaged!), Ptarmigan Ridge, and Chain Lakes Trail. Some other local favorite trails located off of Mt. Baker Highway are Hannegan Peak, Excelsior, and Heliotrope Ridge. Artist point also has an ADA accessible trail with unparalleled views of Mt. Shuksan and Mt. Baker. If you only have time for one thing during your stay in Washington, this is what we recommend doing!

Baker Lake

Baker Lake

Concrete, WA 98237

This gem is nestled within the Cascades at the foot of Mt. Baker, not to far from Bellingham city limits. By far our favorite place for paddleboarding and kayaking, you'd be hard pressed to find a lake with clearer, bright blue/green glacial melt. We will be planning a small backpacking excursion & lake day on August 1st-2nd. If you are interested in joining us, please send a text message to Savannah or Josh.

Redlight Kitchen & Bar

Redlight Kitchen & Bar

109 Grand Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98225

This is our favorite bar & restaurant in Bellingham! We have spent MANY date nights here and with a local rotating menu there is always something new to try. Our favorite drinks are "the Heartbreaker" and "Black Mirror" and we usually order a bowl of wontons to share!

Snoqualmie Falls

Snoqualmie Falls

North East of Seattle, Snoqualmie, WA 98024

Flying into Seattle and driving up to Mt. Vernon/Bellingham? We highly recommend checking out Snoqualmie Falls on the way up! ADA accessible.

Chihuly Garden and Glass

Chihuly Garden and Glass

305 Harrison Street, Seattle, WA 98109

Chihuly Garden and Glass is an exhibit in the Seattle Center directly next to the Space Needle, showcasing the studio glass of Dale Chihuly. This is one of our favorite places to go to in Seattle!

Pike Place Market

Pike Place Market

85 Pike Street, Seattle, WA 98101

Pike Place Market is a must see for those traveling to the greater Seattle area for the first time! We have spent many days here with family and friends and with multiple levels of the market terraced into the hillside, there's a something for everyone here! Our highlights are the fish markets, Piroshky Piroshky, and the lower level merchant shops. While at Pike's, don't forget to take a stroll down Post Alley! Market hours: Monday-Sunday 9am-5pm

Taylor Shellfish Farms

Taylor Shellfish Farms

2182 Chuckanut Drive, Bow, WA 98232

We have had many dates involving Taylor Shellfish Farms. In the late summer, we take a drive down Chuckanut/Hwy 11, a gorgeous coastal highway through our local mountain pass, and stop at Taylor's to pick up a dozen oysters to enjoy on our balcony. Taylor Shellfish Farms also has a stunning onsite restaurant facing the bay. This stop is a quintessential Bellingham experience.

Whatcom Falls Park

Whatcom Falls Park

1401 Electric Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98229

Whatcom Falls Park is one of Bellingham's many fantastic municipal parks. Located just a mile or so from downtown, this is one of our favorite places to go for an outdoor date or quick trail run. Pair this with Old World Deli or the Co-op and you've got the makings of a lovely picnic!

Downtown Bellingham

Downtown Bellingham

Bellingham, WA 98225

Downtown Bellingham is the central spot for food, music and new experiences. We have spent many days exploring Downtown Bellingham, whether it be dining at Storia Cucina, going to a Downtown Sounds concert, or perusing through many of the local shops, Downtown Bellingham is a great way to spend the afternoon!

Bellingham Axe

Bellingham Axe

1414 Cornwall Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98225

This place is so fun, with lots of different games! An indoor axe and knife throwing venue that charges by the hour. They also offer light refreshments. We went here on our 2nd date and now it's a rainy day staple for us! Located in Downtown Bellingham.

Boulevard Park

Boulevard Park

Bayview Drive, Bellingham, WA 98225

A summertime staple here in Bellingham and another one of our gorgeous municipal parks. Walk along Squalicum Pier while sipping on local coffee and tea.

CreativiTea

CreativiTea

1312 11th Street, Bellingham, WA 98225

Another one of our rainy day favorites! CreativiTea is a pottery painting shop that offers tea and light bites. We have painted bowls, mugs, plates and we even customized all the light switch plates in our apartment with ones we created from CreativiTea. Definitely worth a visit if you have time!

Edgewater Park

Edgewater Park

600 Behrens Millett Road, Mount Vernon, WA 98273

Beautiful local park located near where many will be staying for the wedding. This park is best experienced at sunset!

FAQs

The Wedding Website of Savannah Schell and Joshua Hummel
If you have any questions beyond what has been listed here, please contact Savannah Schell via text message at (707) 364-2254. For any queries week of the wedding, please contact Amanda Schell via text message at (707) 548-4758. Thank you!
Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

The dress code is garden party cocktail. Some examples of summer, daytime cocktail (or semi-formal) dresswear are slacks, button up shirts, dress linens, and summer dresses. For dresses, appropriate lengths would be midi or tea length. Please no white, ivory, cream, or champagne formal wear. Since it's a garden party, we encourage you to have fun with color and patterns! This is your opportunity to wear those fun sunhats and bright colored shoes if you got 'em; don't be shy! Bonus points if you have vintage elements! Please avoid solid black clothing or clothes that are dark enough to appear as solid black. Black laced with bright colors is acceptable. The wedding will be in August in Washington, so we recommend dressing in layers as it will likely be hot in the day and cooler at night. Additionally, the wedding takes place outdoors in a garden nursery, so strappy heels may sink in the grass. We recommend short chunky heels, flats, or boots. No denim or casual wear.

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

We kindly ask that young children (under the age of 12) do not attend the ceremony. All children are certainly welcome to the reception (5pm-10:30pm). Please be aware that there will be no children's menu or additional food accommodation for children. There will be coloring books and games made available. We recommend taking this opportunity to have a date night on us!

Question

What time should I arrive for the ceremony?

Answer

We recommend arriving anytime between 3pm and 3:30pm. Light refreshments will be provided before the ceremony takes place.

Question

Is there transportation to and from the hotels to the ceremony?

Answer

There will be a taxi service on hold for guests to use night of the wedding since Uber service is fairly spotty in Skagit county. This service is not free and will cost around 15 to 30 dollars per ride, depending on location. We recommending sharing a taxi if folks are coming from the same hotel! There is parking available at Christianson's should you choose to drive there instead. Please do not drink and drive. We are utilizing taxis instead of a shuttle due to the dynamic nature of this event and many parties will be staying in separate hotels or VRBOs scattered across the county. Thank you for understanding. Taxi booking information: TBD

Question

What happens in the event of rain/weather?

Answer

The ceremony takes place outdoors. In the event that it rains heavily or there are any other weather related events, the ceremony will be relocated to a second location, likely one of the greenhouses. Each guest that RSVP's "yes" is added to an emergency SMS chat in case of any events like this. All contact info is private and not shared with other guests.

Question

Can I smoke at the event?

Answer

Both cannabis and cigarettes are prohibited on nursery grounds. Additionally, alcohol can only be consumed at the schoolhouse gardens and the vinery. Alcohol is prohibited everywhere else on nursery grounds.

Question

Are there any other events that I should know about around the wedding?

Answer

There's always lots to experience in Bellingham, check out any of these events if you are in town during that time: August 5th: Downtown Sounds, a free concert that happens every Wednesday in the summer months, located at the intersections of Bay, Holly, and Prospect Streets from 5:30pm-9pm August 6th: Trivia Night at Schweinhaus Biergarten, 7pm-9pm. $2 per person to play, with teams of up to 6, and the winner takes it all. Schweinhaus is an open air beer garden located in Downtown Bellingham.

Registry

Your presence is gift enough, however if you are feeling particularly generous, here are some experiences we'd love to have as newlyweds. We live in a small apartment, so we are trying to avoid acquiring physical items. We would much rather have a date night or fun experience to remember your generosity by! We also accept gifts through Venmo, @thegoodsav, as an alternative for folks that do not utilize PayPal or the Zola platform. Please specify the intended gift if you do go this route. Thank you!
