Zachary and Samantha

Our Love Story

Zachary and Samantha first met at Brigham Young University–Idaho in 2019. Zachary had gone on a date with Samantha’s roommate, who quickly proclaimed, “I think you’d like my roommate Samantha better!” He left his number on their apartment whiteboard, and after Samantha reached out, they started spending time together. Bike rides, yoga classes, and ice cream on top of the Wells Fargo building in Rexburg—all led to a sweet friendship that was cut short when Samantha graduated and moved away. With neither of them on social media, they lost touch. Then, almost four years later, Zachary had a dream about Samantha. In it, they were robbing a bank together, and she was dangling over the edge of a building by her ankles. He woke up thinking, “I have to find this girl!” After some serious sleuthing, he finally found her on LinkedIn. Mustering his courage, he sent her this message: Zachary (August 14 - 8:03PM): Hi Sam! This is definitely not a professional inquiry, but I was wondering—on a scale of 1 to 10, how would you feel about me asking for your number? Samantha (August 14 - 9:45PM): Hello Zachary! I’d have to give that feeling a 9.78 and would eagerly provide it if you were to ask! Zachary (August 15 - 6:53AM): Wowow! What good news :) So follow-up question—could I get your number and maybe give you a call one of these evenings? Samantha (August 15 - 8:45AM): Absolutely! My number is… They started reconnecting over the phone. Zachary was in Canada training for a new job that would be based in Salt Lake City. Samantha had been living in Salt Lake since graduating in 2019 and was wrapping up a live-in nanny job in Herriman. With her job ending, she had plans to move back to Australia, where she grew up. Over the next few weeks—laughing, swapping stories, and discovering uncanny similarities like both having dads named Greg who are geologists, sisters named Rachel, and shared childhoods in New Mexico—a strong connection formed. They made plans to meet. They reconnected in person in front of Zachary’s new apartment downtown. Their first day back together was spent at Bloods Lake—swimming, laying in the sun, and feeding chipmunks candied pecans. Samantha felt an instant connection to Zachary’s patience, playfulness, and curiosity. From there, the courtship began: pottery, climbing, pasta, parks, and quality time in between Zachary’s job trips. Samantha knew she loved Zachary on Thanksgiving night 2023, hiking back from Fifth Water Hot Springs. A clear, peaceful thought came: “I love Zachary.” She held onto that moment. The next day, Zachary told her he loved her. What serendipity! In January, Samantha moved to Australia to work on a goat farm. Not knowing what the future would hold—but knowing she loved Zachary—they kept talking, and their relationship deepened. Serious conversations began. They made a plan: they wanted to be together. Samantha returned to Salt Lake in May 2024, and they began their life together—new apartment, job changes, travel, and sun-soaked days on blankets. On May 20, 2025, Zachary proposed. They were married at the Salt Lake County Courthouse on June 12, witnessed by Samantha’s parents, Greg and Jessica Wheeler, and Zachary’s sister, Maria Roselle-Johnson. It was a beautiful spring day full of love and laughter. Cheers to a lifetime filled with just the same!
