FAQs

If your question is not listed here, please reach out to Sam or Thao.
Question

Do I need a visa for Vietnam?

Answer

You will need an e-visa. Please apply for the e-visa at least a month before landing in Vietnam. Make sure everything you fill out matches the info on your passport. You don't want to get the 1 hour expedited visa at the airport (it's very expensive). Get visa here: https://evisa.gov.vn

Question

What is Saigon?

Answer

Saigon was the capital of South Vietnam before the Fall of Saigon (1975). Ho Chi Minh City is the official name of the city, but a lot of people still call the city Saigon.

Question

Which airport should I fly into?

Answer

SGN (Tan Son Nhat International Airport) is the closest to the city center. LTH (Long Thanh International Airport) is a newer airport opening in 2027. However, this airport is about 1.5 hours from city center. You can use Grab (Asia's version of Uber/Lyft) for SGN. A ride from the airport to city center should cost less than $5. You also can book airport transfer on Klook in advance for both airports.

Question

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

Answer

There are numerous hotels walking distance to the wedding venues. We recommend staying in Districts 1, 2 or 3. District 1 is the city center. District 2 is an upscale residential area. District 3 is quieter, greener, and more local. See: https://www.metasource.co/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Metasource-Map-of-Saigon-1-1024x651.png

Question

Do I need to get vaccines before going to Vietnam?

Answer

Yes. Ensure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines (MMR, Tdap) and highly recommended vaccines like Hepatitis A and Typhoid. These vaccines should be covered with your insurance.

Question

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Answer

Wedding reception starts at 6pm. Guests are welcome to arrive starting at 5pm.

Question

How do I to get around the city?

Answer

Saigon doesn't have good public transit. The best way to get around is Grab, SE Asia's ridesharing/food delivery app.
