Newport, Rhode Island is a seaside city on Aquidneck Island. It is located in Narragansett Bay approximately 30 miles southeast of Providence, 75 miles south of Boston and 180 miles northeast of NYC. It is known as a New England summer resort spot, and is famous for its historic mansions and rich sailing history. It was the location of the first U.S. Open tournaments in both tennis and golf, as well as every challenge to the America's Cup between 1930 and 1983. Fun fact: JFK and Jackie O. were married in Newport at St. Mary's Church on William Street!
Newport is easily reached by car, train and even boat! Newport is accessible from all major public transportation hubs in the region; and once you arrive, downtown is best discovered by foot. If driving, Newport is just an hour from points north like Boston or about 3 hours from NYC. From Trumbull, CT it is roughly 2 hours by car. Providence's T.F. Green Airport lies 25 miles to the north. Driving to Newport from the Providence Airport is only about 20 minutes. You can also fly to Boston's Logan Airport, about a 75 minute drive to Newport.
