Our Love Story
It all began in October 2023, when our mutual friend, Kisha, introduced us. I was living in Austin, and he was in Dallas, not too far away, but life had a way of keeping us apart. I was working out of town in Florida at the time, so our connection started over long phone calls. At first, I wasn’t sure about a long-distance relationship. I wanted to be in love, but I wasn’t sure if I was ready for something that required so much patience and dedication. But there was something about Rufus that felt different. He was a father, and seeing how much he loved his girls melted my heart. The consistency he showed me was something I had never experienced before, and for someone who’d been used to uncertainty, it was both refreshing and terrifying. I’ll admit, I started to sabotage what we were building. But Rufus wasn’t going anywhere. He knew I was the one for him, and he kept showing up, making sure I felt seen, heard, and valued. He found out what I liked, and before long, flowers started showing up at my hotel door, each one a sweet reminder of how far he was willing to go for me. There were times when we both felt like life was too complicated, and we’d each think about giving up. But no matter what, Rufus kept pushing forward, and I slowly realized that this developing love was worth fighting for. A year later, I found out I’d be in Dallas for a conference, and I decided to reach out. I told him I’d be in town and if he was still interested, we could finally meet in person. And just like that, the long-distance chapter of our story came to a close. When we finally met, everything clicked. The chemistry was undeniable, and we both knew we’d made it through the hard part. From that moment, it was clear we were meant to be. The Cowboy roped in this girl from Buffalo, New York. Austin Bats - Congress Avenue Bridge
According to experts, Austin is home to the largest urban bat colony in North America. Approximately 1.5 million bats make the Ann Richards Congress Avenue Bridge their home for part of each year. The bats settled here after a renovation of the bridge in 1980 created crevices that were perfect for bats to take refuge in against predators. Every spring, the Mexican free-tailed bats migrate north to the bridge to give birth and raise their babies. Come summertime, the bats can be seen each evening at dusk as they emerge for their nightly excursions to rid the city of pesky insects before heading back to central Mexico in the fall. Evening kayak trips on Lady Bird Lake are a great way to observe the bats. Alternatively, head to the Statesmen Bat Observation Center (free) to watch: It's located next to the bridge on the south side of Lady Bird Lake. The bridge features a pedestrian walkway and the best time to head out is right before dusk.
