Groom
It started with a call about a solo guest heading to the far side of Negril. I figured I’d take it but was wondering why someone would go all the way out there alone. When I pulled up and saw a woman walking to the car, I thought, “Wow, she’s beautiful...” I jumped out, grabbed her bags & opened the door. While we were riding I realized she had a good vibe & real sweet—but mi neva try approach her like that. She asked about a tour and said “Let’s make a deal” telling me she could send me guests. I thought ya man she’s bout her business, so I said yes to give me a reason to keep in touch. I dropped her off, but couldn’t stop thinking ‘bout her. I was surprised when she texted me next day to come have drinks. I was nervous & not sure if I should go.. spent forever deciding what to wear, if I should iron a shirt or bathe in cologne. I finally said forget it and drove a million miles an hour to get there. We had a great time, and ended up talking all night about life, family, our past. Even shared some tears. When the sun came up, I told her I had to leave her with something before I go & leaned in to give her a kiss. That night I prayed hard to God that He make it work if it’s meant to be. Next day I got a call she needed a ride to the airport. I said YES & thats when I knew! When I dropped her off she forgot to pay me and insisted I turn back. I said, “Nah… I’ll see you again.” She didn’t know what I meant at the time but here we are… We planning a wedding & life together.
Bride
I had just began my journey as a travel agent and took a solo trip to Jamaica to get to know the island better. I was excited to explore, until my cross-island transportation got canceled last minute. Naturally, I wasn’t having it, and after a few firm calls (in true Amanda fashion), they promised to find me a driver. A car eventually pulled up and a calm, polite gentleman welcomed me. We hit the road and were deep in conversation – life, family, dreams. He was sweet but getting a little friendly, so I kept my guard up. I wasn’t looking for anyone whatsoever, but it felt like I had known him forever.. When we got to my villa, I was flustered digging through my luggage and he joked, "See, that's why you need a man." I gave him a side-eye – clearly, he didn’t know who he was talking to, lol. But that moment stuck with me. As the trip went on, I kept thinking about him and wanting to know him more. So I did something wild: I sent a text and invited him to meet at Rick’s Café. He was giving me the runaround at first, but to my surprise, he showed up. We watched the sunset, had dinner, and stayed up all night talking. From that moment, something shifted. My mind and heart were at war, but I just knew... this man was someone special. I kept hearing an inner voice say, "Girl, this is your HUSBAND!" So thankful I listened. Since then, FaceTime became our lifeline. Flights between Texas and Jamaica became routine. And now, we’re writing the next chapter – together.
