Once upon a time in Mexico… I got engaged in a tropical paradise in one of the most beautiful places in the world, Cancun! Our story started quickly and has progressed even quicker. But I always dreamed of marrying a Godly Spanish woman. Once I met Cynthia, I knew I had to act fast before she got to know me too well and would change her mind! I had asked her father for permission the week prior to our trip, and had discussed the details of what proposing would look like on their family vacation. Although Covid-19 almost sidelined our whole trip out of the country, the romantic lines of time and space prevailed! I conspired with her parents, brother, cousin, and the hotel photographer in order to get all of the details as close to perfect as possible! On her birthday, June 13th, I surprised her with a private romantic picnic on the beach (shout out to her cousin/brother for helping set it up). This is where she read the letter I had written and received the “only birthday presents” I got her, a matching necklace and bracelet. Little did she know I was hiding a ring nervously. After some time, a hotel photographer strolled upon us and introduced himself. He explained who he was and that he was taking sunset photos on the beach and asked if we wouldn’t mind posing for some photos. Knowing Cynthia loves photos, she looked at me and immediately said “yes let’s do it, it will be fun” (she never knew it wasn’t random, ha!). After several poses, he had us stand on the rock facing opposite directions. On the count of 4 we were going to turn around and look at each other while facing the camera. As she turned, what she saw was me down on one knee, with an out-stretched hand holding the ring. Side note: I had planned on proposing in some cute Spanish vernacular, but I nervously panicked in the moment and went with the basic line “will you marry me” (In English). Due to a word limit, I will have to share the extended detailed version in person. But she did say YES!
