In November 2014, Cassie booked an impulsive trip to a place she had never heard of---The Azores. At the last minute, she decided to skip Thanksgiving and go to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Meanwhile, in Germany, Sebastian found a great deal on a last-minute trip and convinced a friend to join him on a holiday to The Azores. On Cassie's second to last night of her visit, she wandered to a different hotel restaurant for dinner. Sebastian had just arrived to the hotel and walked into that same restaurant. They couldn't resist staring and smiling at one another from afar. Cassie left the restaurant when she finished her meal--as she walked away, she looked over her shoulder through the window and laughed as she saw Sebastian still staring. The next morning, out of pure coincidence, Cassie & Sebastian arrived at the same tour group for the day. He walked right up to her and said "You're the girl from the restaurant." They spent the day jumping off cliffs and rappelling down waterfalls with the adventure tour. That evening, the group met up for dinner and drinks--the sparks were unavoidable between the two. An unlucky/lucky bout of food-poisoning caused Cassie to miss her return flight the next morning. She now had 2 extra days on the island to recover--and spend more time with Sebastian. When it was time for Cassie to return to the U.S. later that weekend, Sebastian was determined this was not a forever goodbye. 6 months later he flew from his home in Germany to New York City--when they saw each other, the sparks were just as real.
