In August 2017, a mutual friend invited us both to go tubing down the Farmington River. This is where Daniel and I met for the first time. I couldn’t help but naturally gravitate toward this person backflipping off the rocks and we ended up spending most of the day together. When we weren’t quite ready to say goodbye, our group decided to continue the fun at a nearby Mexican restaurant. Daniel immediately launched into a conversation with the waitress. “Es el cumpleaños de la chica de rojo. ¿Le puedes pedir a los Mariachis que vengan a cantarle?” For our non-Spanish-speaking family, that roughly translates to: “It’s Sarah’s birthday. Could you please have the Mariachis come sing to her?” And for someone whose birthday is in October, needless to say, he made a lasting first impression. Our story began that night—me laughing with my future husband in a Mexican restaurant with a sombrero on my head. We couldn’t have asked for better friends to join us on this journey or more wonderful families to welcome into our lives. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our story so far. We believe the best is yet to come… xoxo
