They met at school. In his second year, her third, they both had the same math course. Not only that, they had also happened to pick the same elective course. And not only that, they happened to have the same discussion section for that elective. Thus it was that Pouneh and Kyle were spending at least four hours in the same room most days out of the week, and almost couldn’t help but get to know each other. He approached her first, but apparently she had already had her eyes on him for weeks by that time. They began to walk from one class to the next and sit together. One day he told her that her hat was cute, and she blushed. Just before the winter break, he got her number. They messaged each other a lot over those two weeks, and when they saw each other next, it was to watch a movie with her and another friend. That friend flaked, leaving them alone. What would have been a lowkey hangout became their first date. Over the next nine years they had all kinds of adventures together. They cooked, traveled, explored new hobbies, and moved in together, all while hunting for the best ice cream flavors.
