Our Story

An Unexpected Union through an Inevitable Reunion

2007 Seventeen years ago, in 2007, Patrick and Mariane first met as high school classmates in the quaint town of Santa Barbara. While life eventually took them in different directions, fate had other plans in store. Late 2020 After many years apart, they reunited in 2020 through a series of spontaneous food trips organized by their old high school friends. These gatherings were always filled with laughter, but for Patrick and Mariane, something deeper began to stir. While everyone enjoyed the fun, these two seemed to enjoy it just a little bit more. 2021 As time passed, Patrick and Mariane started talking more frequently. They spent countless hours on the phone, sharing stories of their years apart. Each conversation felt like they were rediscovering each other, as though they’d been silent witnesses to each other’s lives all along. Their first date fittingly took place in Santa Barbara, at a cozy batchoy restaurant they both loved. Initially shy to share their budding relationship to everyone, they decided to keep it private for the first few months. They enjoyed quiet dates and outings, often spotted by old friends at malls or restaurants. But no one suspected a thing—they had always been close since high school, after all. Eventually, Patrick came up with a playful way to reveal their relationship on social media. They both posted the same couple’s photo in their daily stories, but cleverly doodled over each other’s faces to keep their identities secret. Within half an hour, one of their high school friends (Syrene!) caught on to the joke and spilled the beans in their group chat! And just like that, the news was out. Before making it public, though, the couple shared the news with a few of their closest friends. The first to know was Kolins, the groom’s best man. They met him at a pub called Backyard, and at first, Kolins couldn’t believe what they were telling him—hahaha! After that, they slowly began revealing their relationship to other close friends, one by one. 2023 As the years passed, their love grew deeper and more mature. In August 2023, Patrick planned a simple but heartfelt proposal during dinner at one of their favorite late-night spots. Afterward, as they walked by the nearby river park, he pulled out a silver ring and asked Mariane to marry him. It was their first engagement—intimate, heartfelt, and perfect for the moment. What began as a simple high school reunion had blossomed into an extraordinary love story. This inevitable reunion among old classmates had turned into an unexpected and beautiful union between Patrick and Mariane.

Cheryl has inspired the bride to aspire to be a wife and mother like her in the future. She will join the wedding as a Principal Sponsor.

Gideon & Charmaigne Eslabra

Secondary Sponsors

Charmaigne and Gideon are dear friends of the couple. The bride and Charmaigne have known each other since college, and their friendship deepened when they reunited as colleagues at Philippine Science High School. Even after moving to different schools, they continued to strengthen their bond through catch-ups in various places and voice messages. Meanwhile, the four of them have shared both planned and unplanned interactions over the years. Charmaigne and Gideon embody a relationship centered on faith and love, which is why they are joining us as Candle Sponsors—symbolizing God’s guidance as the new couple embarks on their married life.

Vincent & Larissa Hortillo

Secondary Sponsors

Larissa is the bride's older sister, married to Vincent, and together they have a lovely daughter, Ayana. This couple has been married since 2018 and represents a family filled with love, fun, courage, laughter, and energy. Therefore, they are joining us as Veil Sponsors, placing the veil over the new couple's shoulders to symbolize their union and being 'clothed as one' in unity.

Rogie & Syrene Subere

Secondary Sponsors

Rogie and Syrene are a couple known for their big smiles. Syrene is a high school classmate of the couple, as well as the bride's niece (through a cousin), and a childhood playmate and friend. Syrene is also that high school classmate who first caught on to the joke (see Our Story above). LOL! Rogie, on the other hand, is the groom's schoolmate, kasimanwa, and distant relative. Having been together for many years, they tied the knot in 2022. Therefore, they will be joining the wedding as Cord Sponsors, symbolizing the binding nature of marriage and the strength of the couple's bond.

Kolins Causing

Best Man

Kolins is one of Patrick's closest friends from university, affectionately nicknamed "Tatay" by the group because he was the first to become a father. They've shared many years together, both as regular students and, humorously, as those who lingered a little longer (LOL). Kolins is a foodie, and if you're into fun food experiments, you should check out his YouTube channel "kolinsc," where he has a quirky video titled "Food combination (Hansel + Fita spreads + peanut butter)." Currently, he's working as a civil engineer at DPWH Barotac Viejo and is in a happy relationship—fingers crossed, this one goes the distance!

Cindy Tueres

Maid of Honor

Cindy is one of Mariane’s closest friends from college, part of a lively quartet that includes Clarice and Joy. They used to link pinky fingers as they strolled through the streets of West Visayas State University, giggling about the most handsome guys from various colleges. They would often sit on sidewalk benches, enjoying the sights and chatting about the latest gossip. Though they now work in different places and have less time to meet, their friendship remains low-maintenance and genuine. Back in college, their conversations revolved around homework and fun; now, they share life’s ups and downs, celebrate each other’s successes, and swap daily stories. Cindy is a cheerful person, even if she doesn’t always show it outwardly—she’s unexpectedly thoughtful and never forgets to bring ‘pasalubong’ for her younger siblings and family. One time she joked, “Indi ko maghambal sa imo kasal kay basi maghibi ko!”—it perfectly captures her blend of humor and sincerity. Since 2012, they’ve been sharing stories, food, and, of course, plenty of chismis. Cindy may be single, but the question is whether she’d ever let someone qualify for her heart!

Wiljun Enric Cenal

Groomsman

Wiljun is another close friend of Patrick from university. While Kolins may hold the moniker of "Tatay," Wiljun is easily the most mature one in the group, always ready to dish out unsolicited life advice—usually over drinks (haha). He is what you call a "werewolf" because, after a few drinks, he transforms into a completely different person. The stark contrast between his sober and drunk selves always makes for a good laugh once he's back to normal. Now, Wiljun works as a civil engineer for a non-corrupt, down-to-earth, and honest politician. He's happily married to Che-che, and they have two adorable kids, Ice and Zoey.

Clarice Cerbas

Bridesmaid

Clarice is one of Mariane’s closest friends from college. Unlike Mariane, she’s quite selective about both her food and her friendships—being her friend is truly an honor! At first glance, Clarice might seem a bit intimidating, but beneath her fierce exterior lies a straightforward, laid-back, and spontaneous spirit. One September day, she casually offered, “Hambala ko kung need mo help, available ko sa weekend.” True to her role as a devoted bridesmaid! Hahaha! Since 2012, they’ve shared countless moments of gossip, fun, food, challenges, and laughter. Now, Clarice is happily married to Glenn and has a delightful daughter named Ari, adding even more joy to her life!

Justel Paul Miado

Groomsman

Justel is another one of Patrick's university buddies. He’s humorously known as the "cool guy" of the group, but ironically because of how clumsy and unlucky he often is (haha!). He and Patrick bonded over their shared love for computer games and their similar sense of humor, becoming gaming buddies back when computer shops were still all the rage. Like many in the group, Justel is also a civil engineer, currently working at WVSU—some might say a better use of taxpayer money than Kolins (just kidding!). He's in a long-term relationship with Bambi, though only a few from the group have had the chance to meet her yet.

Mary Joy Paniza

Bridesmaid

Joy is another vibrant member of the quartet. She’s the one who laughs the most and is easily entertained, always ready to light up the room. She has a tendency to sit back and zone out for a bit, but don’t be fooled—she’s not carrying any heavy burdens, even if it occasionally looks that way! Mariane and Joy have been friends since 2012. Joy is now happily married to Tonton, and they’re both living in Canada. Currently, she’s focused on her studies, which is why she can’t be there in person for the wedding. We miss you, Joy! Your infectious laughter and cheerful spirit are irreplaceable!

Edgardo Novales Jr.

Groomsman

Edgardo Novales, or "Boss" as his friends like to call him, is one of Patrick's closest university friends. Out of all his buddies, Edgardo is probably Patrick’s longest-standing friend, as they’ve been tight since freshman year. They likely spent the most time together during college, as they were among the last of their group to graduate (haha!). Boss now works as a site engineer for the same non-corrupt, down-to-earth, and honest politician that Wiljun works for. He’s in a relationship with Cherry, and together they have a wonderful son, also named Edgardo—because, really, who wouldn’t want to be named Edgardo? (haha!)

Karla Rosa Hualde

Bridesmaid

Karla is Mariane's classmate from both elementary and high school. As the class valedictorian in grade school, she and Mariane, the salutatorian, shared a friendly rivalry. They both attended Santa Barbara for high school, where they weren’t particularly close, but that changed about three years ago when they discovered shared interests, topics, and plenty of chika. Karla is a devoted dog lover and cherishes her family. Back in 2021 or 2022, they would walk from their houses to Hiraya to stay active, though they often ended up doing more talking and snacking than exercising! One memorable day, they took a tricycle home just as a torrential downpour hit, arriving home completely drenched. Karla is thoughtful and chooses her words carefully. In fact, she was one of the first to suspect that Mariane and Patrick had officially become a couple. While Karla is currently single, we’re not quite sure if anyone would meet her high standards!

Kean Lawrence Latosa

Groomsman

Kean is another one of Patrick's close friends from university, often compared to basketball star James Yap thanks to his resemblance—and it's fitting since he's also the most athletic of the group. Kean is the kind of guy you'd want to kick back with, have a few drinks, and vent about life. While he's probably the most proper of the bunch, he's definitely not uptight. Kean now works as a real estate professional, following in the footsteps of his late father. And, for the record, he’s very single—so ladies, feel free to say hi at the party!

Angela Jasmin Sucro

Bridesmaid

Angela is Mariane’s little sister from another mother, Jhonnel! LOL! The two met in 2022 at AECC, and it was an instant connection. They looked at each other and thought, “Daw ginpadako ni siya maayo sang iya ginikanan.” A few months later, they became roommates, sharing countless laughs and meals together. They often found themselves bickering—whether at the office or at home—but their bond only grew stronger. If you get a chance to chat with Angela at the wedding, you might catch her hilariously mixing up her Hiligaynon grammar—Tagalog is definitely her preferred language! Beneath her tough exterior, Angela is incredibly caring and optimistic about the future. She’s currently in a relationship with Amiel, so just a heads up—back off!

Kaizer Paul Seloterio

Groomsman

Kaizer is one of Patrick's oldest friends, going all the way back to grade school. They bonded over their shared sense of humor, love for computer games, and mutual interest in random, intriguing topics—often surprising each other with how similarly they think. Kaizer is a true stand-up guy, so it’s fitting that he chose a career in public service. He’s currently working as a jail officer at BJMP and is in a relationship with Leslie.

Kristina Isleta

Bridesmaid

Kei is Mariane’s classmate at Ateneo, and she’s as captivating as her signature blonde hair! For Mariane, who grew up in Iloilo, it was both unusual and brave for Kei to make such a bold choice. They shared a home in UPD Area 2 with Digi and Micah, walking to Ateneo together every day. Kei played a huge role in introducing Mariane to the vibrant world of K-pop and music. She even took Mariane to her first concert, Ideal Cut, and was the best friend ever, patiently waiting for hours in a coffee shop outside the MOA Arena while Mariane enjoyed the show inside. When the lockdown began on March 12, 2020, Mariane went to Kei's family home in Nagcarlan, Laguna, where she lived with the family for about three months. Now, Kei is a food technologist and a professor, and while she’s definitely single, we’re not quite sure if anyone could qualify for her heart!

Jonathan Suelo

Groomsman

Jonathan has been Patrick’s friend since high school, and they even ended up as college classmates. But while Patrick took the scenic route through university, Jonathan not only graduated on time—he did it with honors as cum laude, no less! Despite his academic achievements, Jonathan isn’t just your typical book-smart guy. Along with Joule, he was one of Patrick’s trusty drinking buddies. He’s definitely the most prim and proper of the trio, though, and is almost always the one who foots the bill (haha!). Nowadays, Jonathan works as a project engineer at NGCP and is in a loving relationship with Ellen.

Regina Valenzuela

Bridesmaid

Reg is Mariane’s friend, classmate, seatmate, mentor, and sister all rolled into one. She has a wonderful ability to appreciate the best qualities in others, always focusing on their bright sides. With her radiant spirit, she shines like a beacon of positivity: figuratively and literally! She glows so much that you might think she’s from another race, perhaps Irish or Scottish! Reg has a flair for hair dye, just like Kei and Mariane, making them a true “trio” at Ateneo. One time, she even asked Mariane to meet her Mom and pick up a forgotten document, highlighting how close they’ve become—almost like sisters. Reg 'adores' spending time with Mariane (LOL!), often saying things like, “Mariane, tama na!” or “Ang gulo mo, Mariane!”—her playful reminders always bringing a smile. Now a professor and a doctoral student in environmental science, Reg is happily married to Jerome and has an adorable daughter named AA.

Jovi Cresol Sornito

Groomsman

Jovi is Patrick's friend and classmate from high school. Jovi is a seafarer and we hope he can join us celebrate the wedding. Jovi is now married to Angela, with a cute little baby Elle!

John Mark Burila

Bridesman

John Mark is one of Mariane’s closest friends from university and her ultimate music buddy. They love belting out their favorite tunes at KTV and often spend hours discussing their careers and dreams, not to mention gossiping about all the attractive people they know! Their friendship has been filled with chika since 2011 and continues to thrive today. Though JM often has the look of a strict professor that might intimidate you, he’s actually a fun and lively presence among friends. Both he and Mariane applied to UP Diliman for their doctorate studies, but Mariane decided to take a break, leaving JM to navigate the challenges solo—poor guy! LOL! Now a professor, JM is pursuing his doctorate in chemistry education. He’s definitely single, so we encourage you to take a chance on him!

Joule Vincent Senorio

Groomsman

Joule is Patrick's close friend and classmate from high school. Joule and Patrick are the go-to shat goers! Joule is a seafarer and may not be able to join the wedding celebration. Joule is now married to Carmina, with a cute daughter Kathalina.

Jhonnel Jardeleza

Bridesman

Jhonnela is one of Mariane’s closest friends, both in person and on social media—hahaha! As her boss at AECC, he tends to overthink everything, but his neat, organized nature makes him particularly particular about the little details. Jhonnela genuinely loves helping others and never views work as just a job; he’s always there for his clients and everyone around him. He has a Terra that looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor, which is no surprise given his commitment to cleanliness! However, in their social media conversations, he’s all about the fun—sending hilarious memes and rated PG13 posts just because! LOL! Unfortunately, he won’t be able to attend the wedding as he’s currently in the United Kingdom with his partner, Nonoy. So, back off! We miss you, Jhonnel!

Jaren Sobremisana

Groomsman

Jaren is a cherished friend of both the bride and groom. He and the bride go way back to primary school, and they’re even family! His bond with the groom started in high school as classmates, and they continued their journey as course mates in college. Basically, Jaren has been a steady presence in both their lives. Currently based in Dubai, Jaren might not make it to the wedding—but who knows, we might be surprised! Oh, and by the way, Jaren’s still single, so feel free to introduce yourself!

Pearly Jade Samilo

Honored Guest

Jade (or Ma'am Jade) is a sweet and soft presence to everyone around her. She is always smiling to everyone and she is absolutely a genuine friend. The couple has always admired her personality made of intelligence, wit, kindness and helpfulness. She will join the wedding as an Honored Guest.

Salvador Bacio Jr.

Honored Guest

Salvador (or Sir Bads) is a package of fun, laughter, energy and wit! He brings joy and fun to any room he enters. He loves to crack jokes and make fun of his friends lovingly. On another note, he is a caring son, brother and friend to everyone. He inspires anyone to become giving, wise and happy. He is one of the couple's honored guests for the wedding.

Roberto Sagge Jr.

Honored Guest

Roberto (or Sir Robert) is the couple's colleague and friend. While he often comes across as a nonchalant presence in the room, he is genuinely caring and kind. He takes on a fatherly role with his nieces and nephew, showing them love and support. He is a supportive friend and an inspiring individual altogether. He will be joining the wedding as an Honored Guest.

Elsa Arbado

Honored Guest

Elsa is the bride's cousin, Syrene's auntie, and the twin sister of Elsie (Syrene's mom). Like her twin, she's a ray of sunshine everywhere she goes. She always smiles and always has something positive to say and appreciate about everyone. She will be attending the wedding as an honored guest.
