When Mpendulo was assigned to Palesa's congregation, they both didn't think much of their relationship except for being spiritual brother and sister. This all changed when they were assigned to work with each other in field service and they both realised that there was something special about the other. One field service trip turned into many, one conversation turned into unending laughs and one budding friendship turned into a journey to being forever best friends.

A friend of Palesa planned with her for weeks that they would meet up for an ice-cream catch-up date. The actual plan was to get her to where Mpendulo was without her suspecting anything. When she cancelled the ice-cream date at the last minute, Mpendulo asked that the two of them meet up instead, but this would naturally require them to have a chaperone, her friend. When the ladies met up, the friend unfortunately "forgot" something at home and they had to turn back together. Much to Palesa's surprise, as she opened the door, she saw the love of her life standing there in a romantic setup and ring in hand. Mpendulo went down on one knee and asked her to marry him and without hesitation, she said YES!
