Travel

The Wedding Website of Noelani Vargas and Chase Clark
Fly into Kona International Airport (KOA). We recommend renting a car to fully enjoy the rural and rugged Big Island during your stay. The airport has several rental car companies and Turo is also available. Kona is packed with hotel, condo, and Air B&B options. We recommend staying at or near Kona Outrigger Resort and Spa if you would like to utilize wedding day transportation shuttle service. The Outrigger is about 20 minutes from the wedding venue, has a great pool, is close to the famous manta ray snorkel, and is close to Kona shopping/dining. You may also consider staying at a condo or Air B&B near outrigger in the Keauhou area to utilize wedding day transportation. To stay closer to the wedding venue (10 minutes) consider looking for accommodations at Holualoa Inn or vacation rentals in the Holualoa area. Holualoa is at higher elevation and provides cooler weather than staying on the coast. Coffee shops and art galleries in the quaint town of Holualoa.

Things To Do

Hunting

Hunting

The Big Island boasts an excellent selection of sheep, goat, and boar hunting. Rifle and bow public land hunting options will be available in April and May. Check Go Hunt Hawaii website below for information on how to get out of state exemption number and Hawaii hunting license ahead of time.

Surfing

Surfing

Kahaluu and Pinetrees are great spots for surfing and boogie boarding. Remember…. Sharp rocks, coral, and sea urchins. Wouldn’t want sore feet for post wedding dance party.

Hiking

Hiking

Captain Cook Trail in south Kona takes you down a steep 3.7 mile trail to excellent snorkeling. Start early! Consider lunch at Shaka Tacoz or the Coffee Shack after. Volcano National Park (2 hours from Kona) has a verity of trails through native forrest. We also enjoy Pololuu valley hike in Hawi (1.25 hour from Kona).

Tropical Cocktails

Tropical Cocktails

Cheeky Tiki, Huggo’s, Seafood Bar and Lava lava are all favorites.

Breweries

Breweries

Ola Kona Tap Room, Kona Brew, and check out Big Island Brew House if in Waimea town.

Dining

Snorkeling

Snorkeling

The clear waters of Kona has some excellent snorkeling. Kahaluu is close to the Outrigger hotel. We also recommend two step Hōnaunau Bay or Caption Cook monument. Early morning is best and if in doubt don’t go out!

Beaches

Beaches

Watch out…. It’s ROCKY! The Big Island is the youngest of the Hawaiian islands leading to A LOT OF SHARP LAVA ROCK. However, it does have some beautiful beaches. Choose Magic Sands or Kua Bay close to Kona town for a quick dip. For longer beach day 30 minutes north of Kona you will find Mauna Kea Beach, Hapuna Beach, and Wailea Beach (69s). These 3 northern beaches are the longest and have the most sand. For the adventurous hikers try Makalawena for powder sugar sand, Pololuu for black sand, and Mahana beach for green sand.

Fishing

Fishing

Kona has excellent sports fishing options. Look for charters out of Honokōhau harbor.

Manta Ray Snorkel

Manta Ray Snorkel

Watch magnificent manta rays glide through the ocean at night. Kona is one of the only places to do this. We recommend going with smaller company such as Eka Canoe Adventures or Anelakai Adventures for authentic Hawaiian experience.
