The Hinge algorithm graced Neal and Mackenzie with a fated match in January, 2020. As Neal suggested, they had their first date over fried chicken and waffles at Sweet Chick in Manhattan's Lower East Side. They hit it off immediately and the only "red flag" Mackenzie found was that Neal informed her she had just witnessed him breaking his 2 year vegan streak. Neal's plan to leave a lasting impression worked! The second date was an intimate axe throwing session where Mackenzie flexed her competitive side and strained her rotator cuff. The instructor initiated the couple's first ever photo which is included for your viewing pleasure below. On the third date, at a Bob Marley birthday tribute show, Neal figured there was no better time to make a move and they shared their first kiss to "Is This Love". Less than 1 month after becoming "official", their relationship became a trial-by-fire when they quarantined together during the start of the infamous COVID-19 pandemic. This unprecedented step created the foundation and momentum for Neal and Mackenzie to become the powerhouse couple you know and love today.
When planning the proposal, Neal was inspired by his parents' proposal in Central Park. He then remembered that he and Mackenzie took their first couples photos on a particular rock near Bethesda Terrace. Once the ring was secured, he asked a group of his musician friends to surprise them on their walk through central park and to perform "Is This Love" while he proposed on the same rock from their first photos. It was perfect. The post-proposal meal was fried chicken and waffles at Sweet Chick, of course!
