Darryl and Naketa met when Darryl was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, through a mutual friend Joey Marbley. They didn't get much time to get to know each other because Darryl was getting out of the Marine Corps and going back home to live in Holly Springs. They lost touch for a while, but soon reconnected. The two of them spent months talking on the phone and making frequent visits back and forth to see each other. As one may imagine this was tough on both of them . Traveling with two small children at the time grew old. After approximately 2 years, Darryl and Naketa moved in together. After living together for some time, their families met one another. That is when they found out just how small their world really was. Naketa's uncle Danny met Darryl and knew right away who his family was. Darryl's parents and Naketa's uncle Danny use to bowl together. Naketa's father, Keith also remembers Darryl's father. The two men met one another in the early 80's in Raleigh fishing at the lake. Let Keith tell it, he thought them all how to fish. Naketa respects her uncle and values his opinion, so when she asked him what he thought of Darryl meant a lot. With a smile he said to her, “He comes from good people.” that was great to hear. When your uncle says guy is good, especial her uncle Danny you know you have something special. Darryl and Naketa have been together now for 16 years. They have built a solid relationship. By no means is it perfect, they have struggled, broken up, got back together, gotten to places that they thought they would never come back from, and created memories that neither one could imagine. Through it all they have built a foundation for love that will last a lifetime. God has truly made them for each other.
