The Proposal

July 2 2022

In late spring of 2022, we found ourselves adjusting our summer plans to climb Mt. Rainier. After Moriah's surgery, we decided to swap the mountaineering adventure for a rock climbing trip in Yosemite. Maxwell's choice was Tenaya Peak in Tuolumne Meadows, one of his all-time favorites. It proved to be quite the intense climb for Moriah, but the breathtaking views made it all worthwhile. Wildflowers were in full bloom, and Maxwell playfully arranged all the climbing gear Moriah had to collect amidst the blossoms for her delight. Finally reaching the summit, Moriah turned to savor the awe-inspiring vistas. When she turned back to Maxwell, he was down on one knee, presenting her with a rope knot ring. He grinned and said, "I couldn't find you a florist who could provide enough flowers, so I got you a mountain of wildflowers instead! And I hope that in a year from now, you might consider marrying me on the beach down there?" Moriah's initial response was, "You dragged me up here to ask me that?" But then, with a joyful heart, she said yes!

We Will Be The Roses

We will be changing our last name to “Rose,” with the added significance that “Rose” is also Moriah’s middle name. This decision is rooted in our desire to embrace a more progressive approach to family identity, one that aligns with our values of simplicity and inclusivity. The choice of “Rose” as our new surname holds a special significance for us. Its simplicity carries an understated elegance, and the way it sounds evokes a sense of timeless beauty. With this change, we aim to shed any complexities and opt for a name that not only symbolizes the beauty in simplicity but also resonates with the poetry of a harmonious family bond. It’s a decision we are excited about, and we believe it’s a change that reflects the evolving dynamics of our family in a playful yet meaningful way.

FAQs

Question

Why the distance between the ceremony and the reception?

Answer

Maxwell's proposal selected the ceremony location (please refer to the details above). We would like to be married under the peaks we climbed that day. We also looked for options that will be more accommodating in the event of inclement weather, varying abilities, and enhanced comfort.

Question

How far is that drive?

Answer

The estimated drive time to Tenaya Lake from The Hotel Charlotte is approximately 1.5 hours one way. It’s a scenic and beautiful drive that you’re sure to enjoy!

Question

Do you expect guests to attend both?

Answer

We want you all to have fun with us, and we understand that will be a long commute. We will make an effort to coordinate a carpool from the Hotel Charlotte, but if you prefer to only attend the reception or the ceremony please indicate that on your RSVP."

Question

Where will the ceremony take place?

Answer

The ceremony will be quite informal in its setting, and it will take place on the beach at Tenaya Lake near the Murphy Creek Trailhead. For those who will be joining us and haven't visited this location before, rest assured that there won't be any hiking required. It will be a short walk from the parking lot to the beach. We will provide floor pillows and picnic blankets for everyone's comfort. If any of you anticipate difficulty standing for extended periods or sitting on the ground, we kindly encourage you to bring a camping chair, or you may request one in advance, and we will gladly provide it. However the park limits these to those that require them for age or ability. The event will be handicap accessible, and we recommend bringing walking sticks if you find them helpful.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

We are asking our guests to join us in white! Please attend in all white/mostly white (accent colors optional) semi-formal attire.

Question

Okay I get the all white or mostly white but what does semi-formal attire mean?

Answer

Here are some examples! A classic option for semi-formal occasions, typically includes a well-fitted suit, a crisp dress shirt, and a conservative tie. Pair this with polished dress shoes to complete the look. For a more relaxed yet still semi-formal look, consider a blazer, light gray or khaki dress slacks, a dress shirt, and loafers. A popular choice for semi-formal events is a white dress or mostly white print, complemented by modest heels or dressy flats. Accessorize with a statement necklace and a clutch for a polished appearance. Opt for a tailored pantsuit in a rich fabric, paired with a stylish blouse. To add a touch of elegance, choose closed-toe heels and elegant jewelry to complete the semi-formal look.

Question

What food and drink will be served?

Answer

The wedding ceremony will feature a bohemian petit brunch picnic. The menu will likely include macaroons, croissants, fruits, and pastries, all paired with dry bubbly wine, juices, and water. These will be provided at the picnic area on the beach after the ceremony. The wedding reception will have a grazing board/charcuterie buffet provided by the mother of the groom Joy. The bar will offer discounted cocktails for our guests, and you can open your own tab if you wish. If guests would like to order full meals, please be aware that the hotel has a restaurant where you can place your order. You are also invited to explore nearby restaurants and stores. Feel free to bring your meals back to Charlotte and enjoy them in the beer garden with us. Maxwell and Moriah love to support mom and pop establishments and hope you'll join in the tradition!

Question

Why no wedding party?

Answer

We did not feel the need to specify which friends would have honors or be expected to help on the big day. We firmly believe that anyone who wants to help will, and those who don't want to are absolutely free to make that choice, with no judgment whatsoever!

Question

How can I help?

Answer

We will have a carpool sign up and a to do list at the Hotel Charlotte. Come see us there on Friday the 13th and sign up for a task you wouldn’t mind helping out with. We appreciate anyone who wants to help.

Question

Can my little beings join?

Answer

Children are most welcome to join us! Additionally, the Hotel Charlotte is a dog-friendly place. However, it's important to note that the National Park Service does not permit dogs at Tenaya Lake, so they cannot be present at the ceremony. The bride and groom would be truly honored if you choose to bring your family, including your furry friends. Please do let us know in your RSVP, so we can make the necessary arrangements. Thank you!
