Our puppy love was ignited in 1983, Trevor was a student at Verbum Dei and I (Monica) was a student at St. John’s the Evangelist. It was my older brother Dave, who was the glue that kept our friendship going. At the time there was no email, voicemail, text messaging, or video calls. We had regular old-fashioned mail and letter writing. Dave would carry letters back and forth between us during the school year. Our friendship grew and one day we walked hand in hand to the bus stop on Van Ness & 108th. Fast forward 33 years – Facebook allowed us the space and opportunity to reconnect. Who knew an innocent friend request would lead us to the altar? We were so excited at the prospect of being friends that we didn’t realize how subtly our friendship evolved into a courtship. The bus stop on Van Ness & 108th became “our spot”. We would drive by randomly as if we could freeze time, reminisce and steal a kiss. Many times remembering that day so long ago when I got on the bus and Trevor said, I’ll wait for you. Now here we are 40 years later, back at the same bus stop but this time Trevor brought a ring. He asked, I answered, we got on the bus and now we’re planning to celebrate this next step in our journey with our family and friends, AKA our “Framily”.
