Our Story

From Friends to Engaged

Kolter first laid eyes on Monica on zoom during an online church meeting. It was the pandemic so everyone was separated. He couldn't figure out anything to say as a catchy DM so he had to wait until they finally met a few months later during a fourth of July friends get together. There Monica and Kolter finally met but only saw each other for a few minutes. It wasn't until a friend's wedding that he was able to get Monica's number and there the friendship began. The two friends quickly got to know each other and enjoy each other's company, calling each other "best friends." Monica started developing feelings for Kolter and came to the conclusion that he was going to be her husband. However, Kolter, who was as blind as a bat with no ears, thought they were supposed to be just friends, all the while he was suppressing his own feelings. For the next couple of years, they remained "friends," talking on and off. At a couple points, Monica cut him off completely not being able to separate her feelings from the relationship. One day, Monica reached back out to Kolter and they began to talk again. They talked on the phone, video-chatted, and texted multiple times a day every day for the next year. Monica would drive once or twice a week one and a half hours away to visit Kolter in Maryland and spend time with him. Kolter would also drive the distance multiple times a week just to see her for a few hours after work. And imagine, they were still calling themselves "just friends"! Kolter finally moved to Virginia, just in time to celebrate Monica's birthday. Other friends were invited but no one could make it. So it was just the two of them for the day. He showed up that morning with a bouquet of flowers and a card, as friends do 😉. He took her to the Luray Caverns, and then wine-tasting, and finally burgers and milkshakes (they love getting milkshakes together!). But that wasn't all. He brought her to his new place and spent three hours cooking his specialty dish - orange chicken! She loved it! I'm taking the computer now (Kolter). I still didn't get it! I still thought she was just a friend. It wasn't until a few days later while we were sitting on the couch that I realized it was HER. SHE'S THE ONE I WANTED TO MARRY. I couldn't believe it. This whole time she's been right here?? What a strange thought. That night God woke me up at 1am and opened my eyes to how this whole thing was His idea. Monica really was the one that He had prepared for me and I was the one He had prepared for her. A day or two later, while we were hanging out, she asked me what I was thinking about. So I told her I was thinking about marrying her. She shrieked. I elaborated a little and told her to wait for a proposal. Later that day I ordered the ring. As soon as it arrived a week later, I went up to her job and proposed to her. My hands were shaking as I pulled the ring out of my pocket and presented it to her. She immediately said yes! And the rest is history ❤️
