Although Mira and Max have known each other since second grade, their story is much more 21st century than fairy tale. They started dating after matching on Bumble, after all. But before those fateful swipes right, Mira and Max attended Solomon Schechter together in New Jersey. Mira would discover a lifelong passion for Jewish tradition growing up in that environment, as she eventually attended Columbia and majored in music before becoming ordained as a Cantor in 2021. Max’s journey was much more secular — and we’re putting that mildly — but he turned his interest in writing into a journalism degree from Northwestern and has reported on the biopharma industry since 2020. The two met for their first date on December 20, 2022, at a now-shuttered taco joint near Union Square in New York City (RIP Flats Fix). They continued seeing each other once or twice a week, but with Max living in Brooklyn and Mira living on the Upper East Side, it felt like a long-distance relationship. Max still remembers the nearly hour-long Subway rides fondly…somewhat. Things started getting more serious after a trip to Maine in July 2023, where Mira and Max spent a long weekend in Portland and Kennebunkport. They walked along the beaches, ate some great (Kosher) seafood and took a “Paint & Sip” class where each painted half of a full painting while drinking some wine. A few months later, Mira successfully persuaded Max to leave Brooklyn for his own UES apartment, just a 10-minute walk from her place. It was through this closer proximity that Mira and Max’s connection deepened. Many evenings were spent at Mira’s apartment watching some of her favorite podcasts. Max was also moved by Mira’s installation as the Assistant Cantor at Park Avenue Synagogue, where he watched Mira effectively put on a concert by herself with appearances from friends and mentors. Mira, meanwhile, braved a trip to Citi Field to see one of the worst baseball games the Mets ever played. Despite venturing outside their respective comfort zones, Mira and Max’s bond grew as they shared their interests with each other. They planned more fun and memorable getaways to Montreal and Newfoundland before Max moved into Mira’s apartment in September 2024. Their best vacation came last summer, however, as the two traveled to Iceland for a week. Then, on November 21, 2025, Max popped the question as the two walked along the East River. He tried to surprise Mira and failed spectacularly, but his sister Rebecca managed to stay hidden and take some amazing engagement photos. Mira and Max now live happily together with their rescue dog Rose, who gets jealous any time the two touch each other. The best chapters are certainly yet to come.
