Travel Note

GENERAL INFORMATION

Welcome to New York! It's been waiting for you... HOTELS: We are arranging for discount codes with multiple hotels in the Midtown West / Central Park South area, but if you have questions about other properties or neighborhoods, please reach out to us! We are happy to discuss options and pros/cons with you. We do suggest staying away from Times Square and the Theater District. TRANSPORTATION: Our ceremony (Columbia) and reception (Chelsea Piers) are both on NYC's West Side and approximately 20 minutes via car from the hotels we have identified. Staying downtown or on the East Side will be farther away from the wedding venues. Guests should plan to take a cab or Uber/Lyft from Columbia to the reception at Chelsea Piers. Taking the Subway to Chelsea Piers requires crossing West Side Highway, and we do not recommend that.

Things To Do

Yankee Stadium

Yankee Stadium

1 East 161st Street, Concourse, NY 10451

The Yankees are playing the Braves August 7-9! We are huge Yankees fans and love to watch the Bronx Bombers play in NYC or on the road.

Theater District

Theater District

New York, NY

Don't throw away your shot! A Broadway show is a great way to spend an evening. And for all the Oklahomans, "The Outsiders" is now playing. Stay gold, Ponyboy...

Central Park

New York, NY

Central Park is car-free on weekends, so it's a lovely time to walk, run or stroll. Weekend brunch on the terrace at Tavern on the Green https://www.tavernonthegreen.com/features live music, and it's a great spot for people watching. The finish line of the NYC Marathon is in Central Park, and most important, we were engaged on the Bow Bridge.

5th Avenue

5th Avenue

5th Avenue, New York, NY

After you finish a walk in Central Park, head south to Fifth Avenue to see some of New York's most iconic shopping spots and landmarks: Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany's flagship location, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center and more. Fun fact: the Louis Vuitton store's stacked trunks facade is scaffolding to cover the building while renovations are underway. It's a must-see if you're in the area.

One World Observatory

One World Observatory

117 West Street, New York, NY 10007

For a spectacular, 360-degree view of New York City, nothing is better than One World Observatory, located at the top of the World Trade Center.

9/11 Memorial & Museum

9/11 Memorial & Museum

180 Greenwich Street, New York, NY 10007

The 9/11 Memorial and Museum is a somber, yet meaningful experience. It's adjacent to the World Trade Center in the Financial District.

SoHo

SoHo

New York, NY

SoHo, short for "South of Houston" (pronounced HOW-ston), is an historic neighborhood offering great shopping, dining, and sightseeing. The neighborhood still boasts cast iron facade buildings and cobblestone streets. If you're in the area, check out the Soho Grand Hotel or one of the many restaurants. San Carlo Osteria and Blue Ribbon Sushi are two of many options.

Greenwich Village

Greenwich Village

New York, NY

Greenwich Village, or simply "the Village" is one of NYC's famous neighborhoods feels like stepping into a pocket of old-school charm with tree-lined streets, historic brownstones, and cozy cafés. It's also a top spot for live music, independent bookstores, and classic eateries. Check out Little Owl (the "real" Central Perk from Friends), Buvette or L'Artusi. And you can't skip the best old-school pizza in NYC, John's of Bleeker. You may have to wait in line, but it'll be worth it, trust us!

FAQs

Question

WHERE SHOULD WE STAY?

Answer

We are securing some hotel room blocks for our lovely guests, likely close to Central Park. we will update the website as soon as we have more information, but please feel free to reach out to us in the meantime.

Question

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

Answer

For Friday's Welcome Happy Hour, the attire is casual / dress for your day or evening. For Saturday's ceremony and reception, the attire is cocktail. St. Paul's Chapel is a beautiful, historic building, but alas it does not have the central air conditioning that we're accustomed to -- we will have fans for the ceremony, but be aware that it could be quite warm. Don't worry, the reception at the Lighthouse is fully temperature controlled and has plenty of outside access as well.

Question

WHICH AIRPORT SHOULD WE USE?

Answer

It's easiest to fly to LaGuardia (LGA) or Newark (EWR). JFK Airport is farther away, and the commute into the city is much longer.
