One evening in September of 2017, Mike and Gabby both visited Hoi Polloi Brewing in Berkeley for an after-work drink. Gabby was sitting at the left end of the bar, and Mike was sitting in the middle, with two empty seats on both his right and left side. A party of three came in, so Mike had to move to make room. Where he could have scooted two seats to the right, he scooted two seats to the left and made the right decision. He and Gabby struck up a conversation and next thing they knew, the bar owners were kicking them out at closing time. They exchanged numbers and went their separate ways for the night. Mike never did call Gabby after that night, but he came in the next Sunday to the restaurant where she worked and asked her out for another beer after work at Hoi Polloi. They again were asked to leave at closing time and have been together ever since!
