Back in high school, he was my brother’s friend—funny, always around, and, of course, taken. He had a high-school girlfriend, and I came with a strictly enforced “no touching, no looking, absolutely no dating” label. We graduated, grew up, and went our separate ways… until after college, when fate (and his very determined sisters) pushed us together. One family event turned into two, and before I knew it, I had survived the first official round of meeting his family. Honestly, after that, I felt like part of the clan already. About two years in, we welcomed our first child and officially leveled up to tired-but-happy parents. Then came baby number two, and now—because apparently we’re going for a full team—we now have baby number three. And then came April 1st, 2025. Yes… April Fool’s Day. The risk was enormous. The timing was questionable. But the moment? Absolutely perfect. He wrote out lyrics to our song on the sidewalk, got down on one knee, heart racing—mine too—and before I could even process the “is this a joke??” panic, I saw movement in the trees. Not a squirrel. His mom. Hiding like a full-on paparazzi ninja, snapping pictures of the whole thing. It was chaotic, adorable, and so perfectly us. And of course, I said yes. Looking back, it’s kind of magic. A story that started with teenage timing and a “she’s off limits” rule… Grew through nudges from his sisters, family chaos, and three kids… And led to a proposal on the funniest day of the year with a stealthy, tree-hiding mom catching it all. And to think… in high school we never imagined this. Good thing destiny waited for the perfect moment— April Fool’s Day and all.
