How We Met

The Ballad of Hinge and Trash

Once upon a time, in the autumn of 2020, two weary hearts found each other through Hinge, yet chose to nurture their connection beyond the digital realm by exchanging social media handles and gentle messages. Months passed like pages in a book until Markita invited Jah'Cream to an Anacostia Day of Service, where they met in person for the first time—not in a coffee shop, but side by side, cleaning their community and planting seeds of something special. As the sun set on their day of service, they shared their first official date over dinner, where something magical happened: the walls came down, masks slipped away, and two souls bared their fears, dreams, and perfectly imperfect truths to one another. In that moment of beautiful vulnerability, they both knew this wasn't just another story—it was the beginning of their forever after, having found in each other not just love, but home.

Ceremony

1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

The attire is shirt, tie, and gowns…beautiful gowns. (Formal, but modest, as we will be in a church for the ceremony. You do not have to wear a gown, pants are ok. Please do not wear jeans, sweatpants, or casual wear. Please do not wear white or you will be frowned upon by guests.)

Ceremony and reception in separate spaces, both indoors. We’re having a closed reception due to capacity limitations. We ask that the kids/grandkids/great grandkids of Mable & Raymond Palmer, Betty Ann Barnes, and Annie Tarver stay behind after the wedding for family photos.
