How We Met

Sarah: We met on Bumble in 2020, and it's funny because I used to joke about apps like Bumble and how ridiculous they were. Being new to Florida, I initially created a Bumble account to make friends, and here we are. Tyler picked me up for our first date, and immediately it felt natural. Conversation came easily and our senses of humor complimented each other. We went to Markham Park in Fort Lauderdale for our first date. I was wearing combat boots, and Tyler was wearing sandals (you'll understand why that's an important detail later). It was cloudy and rainy the day of our first date, yet we hiked around the park for hours. We bonded over music, and shared our favorite songs and artists with each other. We talked and talked about anything and everything. At one point we were hiking along a lake, through the trees, and Tyler slipped in the mud and fell right on his butt. Meanwhile, I'm standing there in my combat boots and we were both cackling. Afterwards, we sat on a bank by the lake and again, talked about anything and everything. We spent the rest of the day adventuring and getting to know each other. I didn't want the day to end. By the time the night was over, and I was back at the house I was living in at the time, I thought "I'm going to marry this man." However, I pushed the thought away. Our relationship deepened quickly, my trust in Tyler grew, and the love I have for him continued to grow. We've both been through so much before we met, and since our first date and I am forever grateful for the relationship I stumbled upon. I wouldn't want to do life with anyone else. Here's to forever with my best friend! Tyler: The day we met I was a nervous wreck, we had been talking back and forth the days before we actually went out on our first date. We connected to say the least, we had so much in common, we could go on and on for hours on a single topic. All of that build up to the day we actually met was insane. Then she got into my car and all my stress and anxiety was gone. I knew from that instant she was gonna be my forever. We could have sat on the hill in the trees talking the day and night away if we had that chance.

The Proposal

Sarah: It was October 31st, 2022, one of my favorite holidays. We spent the night in the driveway with our jack-o-lanterns, music and way to much candy for our little neighborhood. We handed out candy, one for me and a handful for the kids and so on and so forth. In between the groups of kids coming and going, I danced to music and we looked at the stars. Eventually there was less and less kids coming and going, so we agreed to call it quits and go watch a movie. So we started cleaning up and we turned off the porch light to make sure no one else came to our door expecting candy. I followed Ty inside and as I was sitting on the couch he says, "go claim the candy you want before Meemaw and Ken get home." So I hopped up and ran for the bowl, and he grabbed the bowl before I could get it!! Then without missing a beat, I chased him down trying to get the candy. I chased him to the end of the hall and he turned to our bedroom, and dropped the bowl on the bed. I plopped down on the bed and started rummaging through the bowl, and decided to just dump the whole thing out on the bed. I was talking about my favorite candies and how almond joys are a disgrace to halloween. I was in my own little world. Then I noticed a box. I start crying, squeaking "what is this" over and over. The cries turned to sobbing, when he didn't reply from behind me. Again, I said "are you joking?!" over and over. I opened the box and I started to sob harder. I turned around to see Tyler on one knee, "you son of a b----! Please tell me you're not joking, are you joking?!" Tyler replied, "will you marry me?" And of course, you guessed it; I was ugly crying at this point, shaking, trying to put the ring on. Through that whole rush of emotions, I still can't remember if I said yes or not....but I would say yes to Tyler a million times if I could, over and over, for the rest of my life. Tyler: I proposed Halloween night, which is basically her all-time favorite day of the year; so I knew it would be perfect!! I kept thinking of different ways to do it but nothing seemed right. As the night grew to an end and the kids slowly stopped coming by, I had an idea of putting the ring in with our left over candy, that Sarah would later “claim her stake of.” As we proceeded inside, the ring was placed into the candy and I asked her if she wanted the bowl… I proceeded to bolt away with the bowl… I finally gave it to her and as she dumped out the candy, I got behind her and waited on one knee…. I grew a beard while waiting… She finally saw the ring and instantly started crying and telling me that I “better not be joking”… she said “Yes” in her fit of tears. 🖤
