We met in first grade. Played saxophone together in fifth. Ruth hated Matt in sixth. Became friends in Junior High. Stayed friends throughout high school and then went our separate ways. Fast forward 10 years: we ran into each other by chance at Dolores Park in San Francisco. We chatted, hugged, and went on with our lives. Still, no sparks. Just a, “Huh, funny seeing you here.” Then came 2020. The world hit pause, and we both found ourselves back in San Diego. We reconnected—this time for real. Something felt different. The timing was right, Matt had a glow up… and now here we are, planning a wedding in the backyard of the life we’ve started building together and would love to share with you all! Join us at home.

Sick fits, only! Funky formal! But really, make a statement while keeping it formal. Suits and ties for men at a minimum. For women: formal long dresses, but with personality. Feel free to have fun with bold colors, cool textures, statement accessories, or a little drama (we love a good shoe moment). Glam it up, but make it you. Think Carrie Bradshaw if she got married in a backyard with good cocktails and great music. We’ll be outdoors during the day and celebrating well into the night, so plan for sun, breezes, and a cozy night. Mid-October in San Diego is usually lovely, but a coat for the night wouldn’t hurt. Yes, it's San Diego, but leave flip flops at home - looking at you Sam... For women, I recommend you bring extra dancing shoes (sneakers) in case your heels become your enemy at the end of the night and to make your way down the canyon. We will have a DIY coat/sneaker check! If you've got any doubts, text me - Ruth.
Yes, the rumors are true, Matt is building a deck! He hasn't finished yet... but he is working on it as we speak! Matt says the deck will be "sturdy" enough, but we will strongly encourage people to move around the entire house and explore the different rooms. Be sure to make yourselves at home!
Come hungry. There won’t be a formal sit-down dinner, but food will be served throughout the night from different vendors. We'll start with tacos (vegan options included), pass around plenty of small bites, have an elotero stop by with fresh corn, and later, churros — maybe even some late-night hot dogs. No assigned seats, no big production — just good food, great drinks, and a fun night. Eat when you're hungry, hang out, and enjoy. Come ready to snack, wander and dance.
We strongly recommend Ubering / Ridshare! We are about 10-20 minute ride from Downtown SD and the hotels we recommended- so should be a breeze! Can't guarantee there will be enough street parking for everyone, as it is a residential area. Address again for good measure: 2524 44th St. San Diego, CA 92105.
Adults only wedding.
There are a ton of museums at Balboa! Our favorite spots are the Botanical Garden and Japanese Tea Garden.
This pop up market is great for an early morning coffee before the wedding. Its open from 8:00am to 2:00pm on Saturdays.
Cant go wrong. Take a stroll down the boardwalk, rent a bike or sun bathe!
You can rent Kayaks, Jet Skis, and Paddleboards.
Great for a stroll and lunch.
Take the Ferry from Seaport Village to Coronado Island!
Great spot to walk around and explore.
