Kristina and Matthew met in 2020 in West Virginia of all places. Kristina was in her third year of medical school at West Virginia University and Matthew was working in medical device sales as a rep for Depuy Synthes. Fun fact, Matt and Kristina’s first date was with her and twenty of her closest medical school friends. Unsurprisingly to anyone who knows Matthew, he flourished in front of Kristina and her medical school friends. Shortly after meeting, society shut down due to coronavirus which gave them plenty of time to spend together. Kristina invited Matthew to hangout with her and her friends frequently during the shut down as most of Mathew’s family and friends were back in Cincinnati, Ohio. The couple shortly began dating and were inseparable. After Kristina’s medical school graduation, she matched in anesthesiology in her hometown at the University of Miami. Matthew quit his job, packed his bags, and moved in with Kristina and her family after only meeting them once before. Matthew would refer to this as his first time going full Cuban. Kristina was very worried Matthew would hate leaving his family and friends to follow her to Miami. He now refers to himself as Miami Matt, frequently telling people he was born to live here. Shortly thereafter they were engaged and purchased their first home together in 2023 once again going full Cuban moving in next door to Kristina's Abuela. Matt found his Mountain Mama in West Virginia, and Kristina found her Gringo. An unconventional love story you do not read about everyday.
