We met during our freshman year at UNC–Chapel Hill, where we both were Economics majors. Our first real interaction came in the simplest way: Byron returned a ruler he had borrowed from me for an exam. What began as a small gesture quickly turned into hours of conversation, laughter, and an unexpected connection. We bonded over our mutual disdain for economics, our shared sense of humor, and the dreams we were only just beginning to imagine. That moment grew into a meaningful friendship, built on easy conversation and genuine understanding. As college life unfolded, we spent countless hours studying together, tackling homework side by side, and supporting each other through the inevitable pressures of exams and deadlines. Some of our favorite memories came from the simplest routines—going to the movies after long days of classes, ordering late-night meals from Tar Heel Takeout, and talking well into the night about everything and nothing at all. Over time, our friendship quietly deepened into something more. We attended campus events together, shared endless laughter, and found comfort in each other during the most demanding moments of college life. Still, as graduation approached, the future felt uncertain. Like many relationships shaped during such a formative time, we didn’t know exactly what came next, or what our story would become. What we did know was the foundation we had built: a genuine friendship, mutual respect, and a connection that felt worth holding onto. In the seasons that followed, through change and growth, our bond endured and evolved. With time, patience, and intention, that early uncertainty gave way to clarity, and our relationship grew stronger than ever. What began with a borrowed ruler turned into a lasting love, one rooted in friendship, resilience, and the choice to continue writing our story together. Thank you for celebrating our love!
