Wedding Party

When we say wedding party, we mean party

Gabriel Clark

Best Man

Jaycee and Gabe met in 2012 on a bus in the sweltering Chicago heat during their Teach for America tenure. Gabe was from San Francisco and Jaycee from Massachusetts. From that point on, they spent almost every weekend together (and some week days). When Gabe moved back to SF, their friendship continued to grow as they visited each other and traveled the country. Gabe first met Mark when we visited him in SF. Gabe consistently reminded Jaycee to be patient with Mark. And, Mark always knew that Gabe would take care of any problems - big, but mostly small. Jaycee and Gabe always talked about their future and their successes. In 2023, Gabriel passed away. It would not be Jaycee's wedding without his best friend there. In November, with the help of their mutual friend, John, Gabe accepted the position of Best Man from his memorial bench in Dolores Park. He is with them on their special day in every Lana song, rainbow, and smile they share.

Kevin Schacht

Wedding Party

Kevin first met Jaycee on the street in Boystown in 2012 as a quick introduction by their mutual friends, Gabe and Alyssa. Little did either of them know that this small introduction would turn into one of the longest, deepest friendships. A few years later, Jaycee hosted a "Is-This-Boy-Good-Enough-For-Me" Night and invited his closest friends, which is where Kevin first met Mark. Kevin would describe Jaycee as generous and hilarious, and Mark as thoughtful and life-of-the-party. Kevin is so excited to be a part of this special day.

Sarah Hoffman

Wedding Party

Sarah met Mark Anthony in 2014 in culinary school. They quickly became friends and spent most of their free time together. From going bar hopping around Wicker Park, to enjoying dim sum in Chinatown...They never ran out of things to do in Chicago!

Jasmin Uriostegui

Wedding Party

Mark and Jasmin go way back to 2015, when their mutual friend Marinell introduced them and they all ended up living together in her apartment. Her first impression of Mark was that he knows how to have fun and is the life of the party, and that has never changed. When she reconnected with Mark in 2021, she met Jaycee for the first time and thought, "Okay, he's the quiet one." She could not have been more wrong, and years of concerts, festivals, and late nights have proven that these two are both the life of every party. You can expect Jasmin to be on top of the small details, helping any way she can, and tearing it up on dance floor with Mark and Jaycee.

Elmer Navarrete-Carbajal

Wedding Party

A husband, father of a few fur babies, and a creative, semi-extroverted marketeer, Elmer is best known as the one who is always ready for a good time. He has shared many milestones with the couple, but a favorite remains an early trip to Puerto Vallarta with Jaycee and Gabe. When it comes to Mark, Elmer has always been inspired by how his incredible cooking serves as the true heart of their home—and as anyone who has tasted it knows, he can really throw down in the kitchen. He is beyond honored to stand by their side for this new chapter and is ready to make sure everyone has a blast celebrating!

Carlos Navarrete-Carbajal

Wedding Party

Carlos is a husband, a proud fur-baby dad, and spent way too many years working in the restaurant industry. He's always down for a good time and he loves just walking around and soaking up the vibes when we’re on vacation together. Carlos has shared so many incredible milestones with this couple, but there’s one story he'll never forget. Jaycee, Elmer, and Gabe headed to the beach while he was stuck at work. They had a little too much fun—to the point where Carlos actually had to call a friend to go find them! Trust me, there are pictures of that day that should never see the light of day. Then there was the time Mark was at the ATM and started panicking, telling Carlos to 'make the machine stop' because it wouldn't stop spitting out cash. It was dollars, not pesos, and Jaycee was just freaking out while the money kept coming! Carlos has enough memories to keep you here all night, but he'll just say how happy he is to be part of this new chapter. He can’t wait to see where life takes them next. ¡Vamos a divertirnos y pasarla súper rico bailando y festejando!"

Philip Abellana

Wedding Party

This is Philip. He lives in Chicago, and he's a Dog Dad, a marathoner/triathlete, and works as a Logistics Broker. He met Mark and Jaycee through mutual friends and his first impression of them was that they’re very down-to-earth, social, and humble. They've shared so many memories and travels together. Philip's favorite was living two blocks away from Jaycee and Mark in Buena Park.

Alison Weikert

Wedding Party

Ali is Jaycee’s big sister and lifelong sidekick. She’s been there for everything from childhood adventures to all of life’s biggest moments - and yes, she has plenty of stories she could share, but has kindly decided to keep those to herself (...for now). She lives outside Boston with her husband, two young kids, and dog where life is busy, loud, and full of love. Ali works in education as a School Psychologist and loves supporting others. She couldn’t be happier to stand by her brother’s side and is so excited to celebrate this next chapter with him and Mark Anthony.

Sarah Reid

Wedding Party

Sarah met Mark Anthony (what feels like forever ago) in a community college swim class—right after she chopped off all her hair. He made sure to call it “bold.” They quickly bonded over karaoke car rides, late-night talks, and nonstop foodie adventures. Mark quickly became family. She can still remember him gushing about a “cute teacher” he had just met—he was VERY smitten. When she met Jaycee and attended his events, like the iconic Jaychella... seeing Jaycee and Mark together just made sense. Since then, they’ve been inseparable and truly a force together. She's so proud and filled with so much love to see them embark on this next chapter. Sarah will be the one smiling the biggest (and definitely tearing up) watching them celebrate their love. "Love you guys!"

Crysthal “Rosay” Melendez

Wedding Party

Crysthal so honored to stand beside Mark and Jaycee on their special day! She first met Mark in 2017 on a trip to Peru, and after many adventures and travels together, he has truly become family to her. Over the years, she's also grown close to her twin-fire-sign Jaycee and adores him dearly. She is a spicy Guatemalan who loves to dance, travel, and do anything that keeps life exciting. Whether that’s riding motorcycles or adding more flight hours to her belt. She loves them both so much and couldn’t be happier to celebrate their love story!

Amanda Hazelip

Wedding Party

Jaycee and Amanda met as co-teachers and co-directors at a Chicago School in 2014. She knew immediately that they would be friends. Mark, Jaycee, and her friendship has deepened over the years through our shared love of travel, dancing, and being hilarious. She currently teaches First Grade in Chicago and presents at educational conferences around the country. At the wedding, you can expect to find her on the dance floor!

Question

How did you Meet?

Answer

In early May 2018, there was a match on Tinder: Mark Anthony and Jaycee. Mark was a chef and self-described “foodie” who loved cooking, traveling, cycling, and cuddling. Jaycee was a teacher with a serious sweet tooth. Their first date was at Jeni’s Ice Cream on Southport in Chicago — an important detail for later. Mark arrived 15 minutes late, and Jaycee debated leaving. Thankfully, he stayed. What was supposed to be a quick ice cream date turned into hours of conversation. The second date was a picnic on the lakeshore. The third was a Cubs game. And the fourth… a weekend trip to New York City. Less than a year later, Mark moved from Humboldt Park to directly across the street from Jaycee in Boystown. From then on, they spent nearly every day together — some easy, some challenging, but all meaningful. Moving in together came naturally: first in their apartment on Melrose, then in the condo they made their own on Gordon. Along the way, they met each other’s families and closest friends, adopted their dog Arlo (he says hi!), and traveled the world together: Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, London, Amsterdam, Tel Aviv, Alaska, the Azores, and many more places. Their biggest adventure came in 2023 with a permanent move to New York City. More than seven years after that first Tinder match, the two returned to Chicago for a music festival. Mark insisted they visit Jeni’s because “there’s nothing like it in New York.” After ordering his usual — Brambleberry Crisp and Darkest Chocolate — they sat outside beneath the same mural from their first date. This time, though, Mark had something special in his pocket. Over half-eaten bowls of ice cream, in the exact spot where they first met, Mark opened a blue box without saying a word. Inside was a ring. Jaycee — somehow completely surprised — was speechless. After a few tears, a lot of tears, and several “What?!”s, came the easiest answer of all: “Yes. Of course.”
