➡️ No traditional visa is required for U.S. citizens if you’re coming for tourism or to attend the wedding for up to 90 days — you just need a valid passport. Switzerland is part of the Schengen Area, and U.S. citizens are currently allowed visa‑free short stays. In June, Switzerland generally enjoys mild to warm weather, with daytime temperatures often ranging from 65°F to 77°F (18°C to 25°C) in the lowlands. Evenings can be cooler, so it’s a good idea to bring a light jacket or sweater for the reception. 💡 Important tips for U.S. travelers: Unlike many places in the U.S., air conditioning is often not provided in Swiss homes, restaurants, or smaller venues, including in towns like Delémont. This may even be the case in some hotels. Please be aware that indoor spaces often rely only on open windows to cool down. Things could heat up in our reception hall with 100+ guests, and several fondue machines going, so please advise accordingly. It can get toasty indoors in June. The cocktail hour will be held outdoors if the weather is nice, so please plan accordingly.
Switzerland uses the Swiss Franc (CHF) as its currency, not the Euro. Most shops, restaurants, and hotels in Switzerland accept credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, and sometimes American Express), but it’s a good idea to have some cash on hand for small purchases, local markets, or taxis. 💡 Tips for U.S. travelers: Check with your bank about foreign transaction fees on your cards. ATMs are widely available if you need cash. Some places may round prices in cash transactions, so keep small coins handy. As of January 2026, the exchange rate from the US to Switzerland is 1 USD = 0.80 CHF.
Yes, you will need a power adapter to use your U.S. devices in Switzerland. Here’s what you need to know: Switzerland uses Type C and Type J plugs (two or three round pins). The standard voltage is 230V and the frequency is 50Hz. Most U.S. devices (laptops, phone chargers, cameras) can handle 110–240V, but you should check the label on your device. If it says “Input: 100–240V,” you only need a plug adapter. If it only supports 110V, you’ll also need a voltage converter. 💡 Tips for travelers: Bring a universal travel adapter — it’s convenient if you’re visiting multiple European countries. Hotels often provide adapters at the reception, but it’s safer to bring your own. Don’t forget adapters for hair dryers or curling irons, as some U.S. appliances aren’t compatible with 230V.
Switzerland has an excellent public transportation system, making it easy and safe to get around. Here’s a breakdown of your options: Trains and buses: Trains and local buses connect most towns and cities. They are punctual, clean, and comfortable, and tickets can be purchased via the SBB app or at stations. Taxis: Available in most towns, but can be more expensive than in the U.S. Uber: Unlike in major Swiss cities, Uber is generally not available in smaller towns and rural areas, so it’s not a reliable option around Delemont. Car rental / driving: Renting a car gives you flexibility, and parking around Delemont is generally easy to find. Roads are well-maintained, though they can be narrow in hilly areas. 💡 Tips for travelers: For day-to-day trips in smaller towns, consider public transportation or driving rather than relying on ride-hailing apps. If you plan to explore wider regions, a rental car is convenient and parking is usually available. For trains or buses, check schedules in advance using the SBB app, which is very user-friendly: https://www.sbb.ch/en/travel-information/apps/sbb-mobile.html
Mobile data, SIM cards & Wi-Fi in Switzerland To stay connected during your trip, we strongly recommend having mobile data in Switzerland. Before choosing a SIM or eSIM, check if your phone is unlocked. What does “unlocked” mean? An unlocked phone can use SIM cards from any carrier. A locked phone only works with the carrier it was purchased from. Why this matters for Americans: Phones in the U.S. are often locked if: Bought through AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile with a payment plan Still being paid off Purchased as part of a promotional deal How to check: iPhone: Settings → General → About → “No SIM restrictions” = unlocked Android: Settings → Network / Connections → Mobile networks → check for carrier lock You can also contact your carrier; unlocking is usually free once the phone is paid off. If your phone is locked: You won’t be able to use a Swiss SIM or eSIM. You’ll need to rely on Wi-Fi (hotels, cafés, trains) and offline maps/apps. Local Swiss SIM cards & eSIMs If your phone is unlocked, options include Digitec iO: CHF 10.– for 1 month of unlimited data Speeds up to 10 Mbps, perfect for maps and messaging Physical SIM or eSIM, generated directly from their website: 👉 iot.digitec.ch Quick and easy activation eSIM apps (no physical SIM needed) If your phone supports eSIM, apps like Airalo, Holafly, Nomad offer Switzerland-only or Europe-wide data plans that install in minutes. Wi-Fi availability Wi-Fi is generally available at hotels, cafés, trains, and some public places, but coverage and speed may vary. Mobile data ensures smooth navigation and communication. 💡 Tip: Check your phone’s lock status before leaving the U.S. to save time, money, and stress once you arrive. If your phone is locked to a U.S. carrier and cannot use a Swiss SIM or eSIM, one good solution is to bring a portable Wi-Fi hotspot (pocket router) that you buy before you leave the U.S
