The couple met at a Halloween party in 2014, August had just returned from the Coast Guard and Maddi was a young college student at the time. Mutual friends brought them together and they began forging a close friendship. Eventually, the stars aligned and they found each other ready to be "the one" for the other. The rest, as they say, is history.

On a much needed vacation to Petaluma, they decided to hike some secluded beaches off of Point Reyes to start the day and, after 8 miles with no food in their stomachs to make Maddi sufficiently grumpy and oblivious, Augie knew the time was right. Feigning desire to take a picture of the two of them kissing on a rock on the beach, he made the perfect setup, got down on one knee, and finally popped the question. The beach was aptly named Hearts Desire Beach.
