LOVE AT FIRST BITE
Mutual friends of Kimberly and Henry said to each of them separately that they wanted them to connect because they were both chefs and thought it could be an opportunity for them to collaborate. Henry reached out to Kimberly in September 2013 via Facebook, and Kimberly didn’t respond. Six months later, in February 2014, Kim was scrolling through Facebook, and Henry popped up on her feed. She said to herself, “damn, he’s handsome.” Henry reminded her of Ralph McDaniels from Video Music Box from back in the day. Kim reached out to Henry, sent him a message by Facebook messenger, and said, “Hey Chef, has anyone ever told you you favor Ralph McDaniels.” It was not until that time that Kimberly noticed that Henry messaged her six months ago. Henry was returning from a business trip on Amtrak and received a message from Kimberly. He thought it was the worst pick-line ever, but he went with the flow, and they talked for about three hours while he traveled back home. They clicked immediately and learned that they lived in the same building as kids in the Bronx, went to the same culinary school but different years, worked in some of the same kitchens, and Henry knew Kim’s best friend of 20 years plus. Henry decided to ask Kim if he could meet her in person, and Kim agreed. They worked close to each other, and Henry walked to her job. They strolled around, talked, got to know each other more, and learned that their favorite movies were “No Reservations.” It’s about two chefs who fell in love. Henry bought two bottles of wine, and at the register, Kim was so nervous she took his change and put it in her pocket, but he didn’t say a word. Henry walked Kim back to her job, and as they were saying their goodbyes, out of the blue, she kissed Henry on the lips. Henry was shocked. Later that night, in both their own homes, they watched the movie No Reservation, drank wine, and talked on the phone. Ever since the first encounter, they have been inseparable. Last October 2023, Henry took Kim to Jamaica for her birthday, and on her birthday, at the gazebo on the beach, after dinner, he bent down on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage, and of course, she said yes. A true love story with no reservations!
