HER PERSPECTIVE: In 2016, I travelled to Namibia with my dad, a teacher, on a school trip. After what felt like forever on a bus packed with loud, sugar-fuelled Grade 7s, we finally arrived at a scorching hot camp along the Orange River. At that point, I was desperate for a swim. I made my way to the lodge restaurant, trying to look composed despite feeling like I might melt. I gave a small smile to mask the chaos… and that’s when I met Louis. We got chatting, and thank goodness he was wearing a shirt with his name on—because I was absolutely convinced his name was Tiaan. I kept subtly checking “Louis” on his back like a safety net. As the sun set, we found ourselves sitting on the riverbank, watching fireflies flicker through the reeds. It felt like a movie moment… until Louis leaned in. Now, in his mind: kiss. In my mind: potential social disaster. So I did the safest thing possible—I went in for a friendly hug. Only afterwards did he casually mention that he had been going in for a kiss. Oh.... Right.... And from that slightly misread moment, something real began. And so love grew… and the rest is history. HIS PERSPECTIVE: Leandri tagged along on her father's 7th grade class field-trip as his rowing partner. The moment she stepped off of that bus I knew I needed to talk to her. Mostly because she was stunning, but also partly due to the positive impact it would have on my street cred back at school. Anyway, through a common connection between my dad and a teacher who also happened to tag along on that fieldtrip, I got the opportunity to meet Leandri. Something he will surely remind everyone of on the special day. Conversation flowed naturally, laughs were had, small islands were conquered and to top it all off, we had our first kiss at night, on the riverbank, in front of an audience of fireflies. This, of course, only happening after I was batted the first attempt. 10 years later, here we are. Best friends and reflections of each other. Maybe on the 28th of November I'll finally get to have my kiss without trying twice.
