How We Met

October 2012

Steph and David met at a Model UN conference in October 2012 (she was competing; he was judging). Six years later, Steph was in London for grad school, and David was working in Washington, D.C. They spontaneously caught up over FaceTime and had a great conversation. Then, Steph moved to D.C. for law school. In D.C., Steph and David became inseparable. They spent their weekends together, studying and exploring. They called each other whenever they traveled, and soon it was hard to imagine life before they met. One year later, David invited Steph to a National Symphony Orchestra concert featuring her favorite piece...their first date.

Going the Distance

For the first four years of their relationship, Steph and David were long distance. Their studies and work took them to Philadelphia, Boston, California, Switzerland, New York, and Georgia, and they kept their relationship strong with visits, pictures, videos, and letters. Their long distance ended in 2023 when David moved back to D.C.!

The Proposal

7.4.22

In the summer of 2022, Steph and David decided to take their first international trip together to Lake Atitlán, Guatemala. On July 4, 2022, on top of Rostro Maya, a mountain overlooking a lakeside town, Steph and David committed to spending their lives together. David proposed with a set of jade bracelets he bought locally. After coming down the mountain, they celebrated their engagement over a chocolate milkshake at a local café. Since then, Steph and David continue to celebrate life's milestones with a chocolate milkshake.
