Can I stay at an Airbnb/Vrbo?
Answer
In New York City, short-term rentals like those offered through Airbnb are subject to stringent regulations. As of September 2023, Local Law 18 mandates that hosts must register with the city and can only rent out their homes for stays shorter than 30 days if they are present during the guest's stay and host no more than two guests at a time. Additionally, internal doors cannot have locks. These rules effectively prohibit the rental of entire apartments or homes for short-term stays unless the host is also residing there. While you may still be able to book an Airbnb for the weekend, you’re doing so at your own risk. We recommend a hotel or staying with friends or family. Don’t hesitate to book a Manhattan hotel - getting to our neck of the woods is easy via public transit or ride sharing/taxis.
