Our Story

At the very center of our relationship is the Gospel: that God, in His love and mercy, sent His Son, Jesus, to live a perfect life and die a sacrificial death on our behalf. “But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Through His death and resurrection, we have been given freedom from sin and the gift of eternal life. Because of this gift of salvation, we now get to experience the gift of marriage, a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church. Marriage is not just a celebration of love between two people, but a picture of the greater love God has for His people. We know we are undeserving, but because of His grace, we are able to be a part of something with a greater meaning. It’s only because of His great love for us that we get to walk this journey together, and ultimately, with Him for eternity. Although God had our story planned for us long before we met, we were first introduced through a group of friends at our college ministry at church. After a few months of friendship, we went on our first date, and instantly connected. Shortly after that first date, Colten left for home for the summer, and we found ourselves starting off long-distance. Even with three hours between us and busy summer jobs and internships, Colten made the drive back every other weekend to spend time together. From Braves games and lake days to beach trips and countless sunset dates, the summer was full of many sweet memories. On May 31st, 2024, at our first favorite sunset spot, Colten asked Lauren to be his girlfriend. Throughout the beginning of our relationship, it was so evident that the Lord was guiding us every step of the way. Through it all, we grew closer together and even more confident in the plan God had for us. In August, Colten moved back to Athens, and we started a new season. We were now living in the same town and sharing daily life. Over the next year, we made many memories together. One of the greatest blessings during this time was being surrounded by godly mentors and friends at Prince Avenue Baptist Church. Their encouragement and accountability continually pointed us back to Christ and helped shape the foundation of our relationship. We learned how to love one another with grace because Jesus has first loved us, building our relationship on the solid foundation of the Gospel. On August 9th, 2025, at our new favorite sunset spot, Bells Lake, Colten got down on one knee and asked Lauren to spend the rest of their lives together. We are endlessly grateful for the way the Lord has woven our story together long before we even knew each other. His timing has been perfect, and His plan has been better than anything we could’ve imagined. The love, encouragement, and support from our friends and family have meant everything to us along the way. We’ve already shared so many meaningful memories, and this past year and a half has truly been some of the sweetest times of our lives. Now, as we step into this next chapter, we are filled with joy and anticipation. We can’t wait to celebrate one of the most special days of our lives with the people who mean the most to us.
