Downtown Halifax. A beautiful stroll within walking distance of Halifax’s finest restaurants and bars, especially when combined with a ferry ride across the harbour to Dartmouth’s Alderney Landing which happens to hold the best view of the Halifax Harbour and a charming sustainable restaurant, The Wooden Monkey.
Downtown Halifax. A short stroll through stunning Victorian gardens and ponds stocked with ducks and geese in the heart of Halifax on Spring Garden Road (Halifax’s premiere shopping district).
Downtown Halifax. National Historic fortress in the heart of downtown Halifax offering an insight into the founding and history of the City of Halifax ...not to mention a panoramic view of the city and the harbour.
50 minutes from downtown Halifax. Old lighthouse, lots of rocks, and iconic views of the power of the ocean. Best bet to visit the site (stay off the black rocks – they are deadly!!!) and have lunch down the road at the Rhubarb Restaurant in Indian Harbour (charming setting and excellent food – one of our favourite places to eat).
1 hour from downtown Halifax. Pretty little artistic village with plenty of little shops and a world famous view of three churches on the waterfront. Best restaurant in our opinion is Rebecca’s, but our favourite place for seafood is the Mug and Anchor Pub with great views of the waterfront.
1 hour, 15 minutes from downtown Halifax. Wedding destination! Lunenburg is the epitome of Nova Scotia’s historic shipbuilding and fishing community, full of quaint artistic shops. The architecture is indicative of Lunenburg’s history and fishing origins. It is incredibly hilly, so come prepared to climb steep hills – comfortable foot wear is a must. Lots of good restaurants but our favourite is the Knot Pub. If you choose to stay awhile, the Lunenburg Ocean View Chalets are nice little cottages close to Lunenburg proper (try to be around at supper time when the proprietor calls his deer herd in for dinner).
1 hour, 20 minutes from downtown Halifax. This is where the highest tides in the world are recorded (47 to 53 feet) and is recognized in the Guinness World Records. For an exorbitant fee, you can enjoy a gourmet meal on the ocean floor. We haven’t done this because it is very expensive, but we have enjoyed many meals at the Flying Apron Inn (a quaint family-run restaurant and Inn in Summerville, Nova Scotia) whose chef initiated ‘Dining on the Ocean Floor'. Even if you choose not to ‘Dine on the Ocean Floor’, you can still walk the ocean floor at Burntcoat Head Provincial Park.
1 hour, 40 minutes from downtown Halifax. Tatamagouche is a cute little village not far from the Jost Winery (lovely place to have lunch with a pretty decent wine) and the Train Station is a unique place to stay the night if you have ever wondered what it’s like to sleep in a rail car –nice little Bistro and great food in the Dining Car, too.
1 hour, 45 minutes from downtown Halifax. Take a leisurely drive up to the Look Off (panoramic view of the countryside) and then tour the town of Wolfville, a college town in the heart of wine country. Stop for lunch or dinner at Lightfoot and Wolfville Vineyards and enjoy the spectacular view.
2 hours, 45 minutes from downtown Halifax. This fishing village is home to the most challenging hike east of Quebec with iconic views of the Bay of Fundy (our favourite hike in all of Nova Scotia, and we’ve done most of them – some wine, some cheese, a LIGHT backpack, and really good hiking boots – you won’t be disappointed). Advocate Harbour has a world class restaurant in its midst, too – the Wild Caraway. Don’t miss Cape D’Or if you have time (a short detour on your way to Advocate). Parrsboro (also on your way to Advocate) is home to the Harbour View Restaurant. This little spot is situated right on the beach and, in our opinion, has the best seafood and home-cooked meals in Nova Scotia.
4 hours from downtown Halifax. The scenery around the Cabot Trail speaks for itself. Give yourself at least two days to make it around the trail if you choose to do this. There are lots of hiking trails along the way and stunning views.
Roughly a 1-hour drive. There are plenty of stunning places to stay right in Lunenburg (glamping on site, Airbnb options within minutes, inns and hotels in Lunenburg and Bridgewater).
We suggest staying in Lunenburg or downtown Halifax. Please see Travel tab for options.
Elegant garden attire. Sundresses, jumpsuits, and blazers/suits in all colours. Floral prints and colour welcome. No denim, please.
Yes! Halifax has Uber, but while in Lunenburg, if not renting a car, your best bet is to call a cab service.
We do not have a registry. Your presence truly means the world to us, but should you wish to give a gift, contributions to our honeymoon fund would be greatly appreciated.
