It was a warm evening, the kind of night where the stars seemed to twinkle just a little brighter as if the universe itself is rooting for something special to happen. I was sitting nervously in the car, my palms a little sweaty, but my heart was racing with excitement. My fiancé, the person who had been quietly capturing my heart with every laugh, and every look, was about to take me on our very first date. He asked if I wanted to get some Water Ice, I was a bit confused. Was he asking if I wanted just water and ice? “Water and ice?” I asked, completely misunderstanding. He just smiled and patiently repeated himself, and that’s when it clicked—he meant the delicious frozen treat I loved, but with a fancy name I wasn’t used to. At Rita’s, I chose the flavor of Sweetish Fish, the sweet and tangy flavor that always hits the spot. He went for Root Beer, thinking it would be the perfect nostalgic flavor. But after one hesitant taste, his face scrunched up in a way that made me giggle. It was... not great. Without a word, he handed me his cup, and we exchanged a smile. We ended up sharing my Sweetish Fish, and even though it was a small, funny moment, it felt like something more. It felt like we were in sync, even in the simplest things. Later, we took a drive around the town, the car windows rolled down, and the air cooled against our faces, but the conversation between us was warm and endless. We talked about everything our favorite music, our childhoods, our dreams for the future. There was no rush, no pressure. It felt so easy, so natural as if we had known each other for a lifetime. As the night wore on, I realized I wasn’t just enjoying the company of a person who was fun and kind. I was with someone who could make the ordinary feel extraordinary, who knew how to turn a simple date into a memory I would cherish forever. And from that first date, I never looked back. The rest, as they say, was history.
