Schedule

The church ceremony will begin at 3:00 pm. We kindly ask that those attending be seated 15 minutes beforehand to avoid interrupting not only our ceremony, but also the Catholic Mass, which we value and respect. Mass is the central act of worship in the Catholic Church, where the Eucharist is celebrated. An Uber from the recommended hotels in the San Isidro district should cost around 35 soles (about $10). The church is about 18 km away, but due to heavy traffic, the ride may take up to 50 minutes, so please plan accordingly. Once Mass concludes, we’ll take lots of pictures! We’ve arranged buses that will be waiting to take you to the reception. Please make sure to have a meal beforehand or bring some snacks, as dinner will be served around 6:45 pm. Bring some sneakers—you’ll need them to dance until 2:00 am. That’s right, the party goes until morning! Welcome to South America. Uber operates 24/7 in this area, so there will always be rides available to take you back to your hotel.

Travel

Below you can find four hotel recommendations in Lima, Peru. Each one has unique features, so we encourage you to read our notes under each option before making your selection. We recommend these hotels because of their location in the San Isidro district, which is less crowded with tourists and considered safer. Other neighborhoods, such as Miraflores and Barranco, are also safe and well-known for their vibrant nightlife. They are closer to the ocean, so hotels in those areas can be a little expensive.

Travel Note

"Uber Everywhere"

Most of the things to do in the city range between 1-10 km from the hotels we recommended in San Isidro. The easiest and safest way to get around is by using Uber! Prices usually range from 20–30 soles (about $5–$10) per ride. Be sure to carry cash, as in many cases you’ll only have the option to pay the driver that way. Traveling to and from the airport will likely be your most expensive ride (around $20).

Travel Note

Explore Peru!

Peru is rich in culture and history, with many incredible places to visit outside of Lima. Most tour guides offer discounts for larger groups, and we’ve contacted one we’ve personally used before. The Google Drive link below contains three PDFs with sample prices to give you a point of comparison. You can also tailor trips to your liking or visit her website at www.andespathjourney.com. That said, there are plenty of other agencies out there—just do your research, and don’t be afraid to negotiate prices. Most guides speak English.

Tips

1. Petty theft is common in Lima. A good rule of thumb is to use a fanny pack to keep your important documents, cash, phones, and other valuables secure. Snatchers are also around, so avoid flaunting your phone or valuables in public. 2. It’s better to carry smaller bills, as merchants often don’t have change for larger bills. 3. The most commonly accepted cards are MasterCard and Visa, while higher-end cards like Amex are not accepted by most vendors. 4. The most widely used communication app in Peru is WhatsApp, so make sure to have it handy. Especially when dealing with tour guides. 5. Currency Exchange Houses often offer the best exchange rate, but you have to make sure it's authorized. The safest way to exchange money is through banks, and we recommend Banco de Credito del Peru (BCP), Western Union, InterBank, and BBVA Continental.

FAQs

Question

What should I do in Peru for a week?

Answer

Channel your adventurous spirit and explore! The capital is mainly suitable for the wedding and a few select activities, but the other cities of Peru have so much more to offer. They are beautiful, safer, and less crowded. Peru is incredibly diverse—offering mountains, coast, and jungle landscapes—so be sure to do your research. As mentioned, take a look at the three PDFs in our Google Drive, as they provide good pricing references you can use to compare with other agencies. We will always recommend visiting Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, but make sure to book your tickets at least a month in advance since they sell out quickly. Especially during the month of June, because of the Inti Raymi! We might have been to Peru once or twice—give us a call and we’ll happily answer your questions!
