We hope you can join us for a welcome party Friday night! Make friends & start the party. Enjoy an open bar & passed apps. Please eat a real dinner prior so you can actually make it to the wedding. The wedding party will join in after a rehearsal dinner. Keep an eye on the website for updated venue & confirmed times closer to the event.

Dress Code: Black-Tie Optional - Something that makes you feel special. Suit or tux & long dresses preferred.
While Dan and I are indeed married in the eyes of the law, we look forward to having a ceremony that is: 1. longer than 2.5 minutes, and 2. someplace a bit more special than a basement law office. Transit note: Please plan on driving to the ceremony (parking is plentiful there) given it is located in Grand Rapids suburbs, and ubers/lyfts will be very scarce returning downtown. Consider carpooling with individuals - we are happy to help you coordinate that as well. We ask you to please not use phones for photos during the ceremony. We promise to share the photo link from our photographer :)

Please join us for a cocktail hour with passed apps (and 3rd floor gallery access from 6:15pm - 7:15pm), followed by a seated dinner and a party. Thank you for helping us celebrate this special day! Transit note: For those staying downtown, we recommend dropping your cars off at the hotels between the ceremony & reception, and walking from your hotel to the GRAM.

Rental Car
For ease of travelling within Grand Rapids, we recommend having a car. Please refer to travel details below and let us know if you have any questions about renting a car in Grand Rapids. Traveling from the airport: The airport is a 20 minute drive from downtown, which is the location of the hotels & reception. Ubers/Cabs will likely be available, but may be a long wait depending upon arrival time. Traveling between the Ceremony & Reception: The ceremony is a 20 minute drive from downtown, which is location of the hotels & reception. Ubers/Cabs may be available, but will likely be scarce outside of the city of Grand Rapids. It may be difficult to get an Uber/Cab from the ceremony back downtown to the reception.
Travel Note
Ceremony: Parking is plentiful & free at the church parking lot. Reception: There is street parking near the venue, but it may be in high competition. There are also a number of parking garages very close to the venue (Monroe Center Parking Garage, Warner Building Parking, Louis-Campau Ramp, and Ellis Parking). For those staying in hotels downtown, we recommend dropping your car at your hotel garage before the cocktail hour and walk or Uber/Lyft to the reception venue. Hotels: Both hotels offer self-park options for a nightly rate. Have fun and be responsible!
Beautiful historic district of some 1,300 nineteenth and early twentieth-century houses. Highlights include the Meyer May House.
Cherry & Wealthy street offer small shops and restaurants - great place for a stroll in the Grand Rapids neighborhood formerly called "east town" but apparently renamed "East Hills"
We met in 2018 in our senior year at Indiana University. Ours is a tale as old as time: in a riveting class of Game Theory and Economic Decision Making, there was a girl with an unmanageable stack of papers, and a boy with a stapler. We spent the rest of the year in multiple classes sitting side by side, both subtly adjusting our daily schedules to run into each other as often as possible on campus. We both graduated that Spring. At that time, we weren't concerning ourselves with silly things like logistics or lawyers. After graduation, Katie moved to Chicago and Dan stayed a year in Bloomington before heading back to his hometown, Toronto. What followed were 4 years of seeing each other however possible: flights, car mileage, phone calls & FaceTime. As fun as it was, in 2023 we were ready to close the distance. Just like in a fairytale, we both took a half-day on a Thursday and were married in the Chicago marital court on May 25th. One Yelp review aptly described the marital office as "as romantic as you can possibly make a dentist office." The ceremony was 2.5 minutes tops. The clerk wished us off with a sour "goodbye, and good luck" on our way out. She spelled Katie's last name wrong on the marriage license. It was all magical; we wouldn't change a detail of it. We were joined by 3 dear friends who captured these special moments on an iPhone (thank you forever, Sam). In the time since our legal wedding, we have navigated the US immigration system and done more paperwork than we possibly could have imagined. It was all worth it when Dan got his Green Card in November, 2024. It has been a long and beautiful journey. We are so excited to celebrate with the friends & family who have supported us over our last 6 years. It has not always been easy, and we are proud of that. We are made strong by our love and commitment to each other, and fueled with the support provided by all of you. Thank you for being a part of our story.
