FAQs

Question

Are Kathy and Martin registered anywhere?

Answer

Thank you for asking! You joining us for our celebration is the greatest gift we could receive. Please bring only your love and dancing shoes!

Question

Is there parking near the celebration?

Answer

There is street parking near the boat house around Lake Ellyn and the surrounding neighborhood. While there is no parking in the circle drive in front of the boat house, it can be used to drop off guests. Parking may be crowded that day as it is Glenbard West High School's home opener football game (Go Hilltoppers!). However, we believe the game will be over and parking will open up prior to the wedding.

Question

What punctuation mark is the most important?

Answer

Many would argue the most important punctuation mark is the period, apostrophe, or question mark. They would be wrong. It is the Oxford comma. Early in the couple's relationship, the bride quizzed the groom to ensure he believed in the use of the Oxford comma as a litmus test of whether they could continue dating. A special shout out to another fan favorite punctuation mark—the em dash.

Question

I have a food allergy, can I make a special request?

Answer

Absolutely. Lucky for the vegetarians of the world, you are the groom's people, and there will be plenty of options. But if you have a dietary preference that is not accounted for in the RSVP choices please let us know and we will be happy to accommodate you.

Question

What is the most romantic film of all time?

Answer

Those who know the bride and groom well know their shared love of film, and this is a question that is hotly debated by many, including the couple. Many of Kathy and Martin's days and nights have been spent screening some of the top candidates including epic romances (Dr. Zhivago during a Chicago snow storm), silly rom coms (too many to name), modern day remakes (Great Expectations), anniversary showings in the theater (Casablanca), and modern classics (the groom had never seen The Princess Bride!). We look forward to our many more screenings into the future and hearing your top picks as well.

Question

Is there a wedding party?

Answer

Kathy and Martin are excited to have Josie and Rylan Ehrhart as attendants and Guy and Ericka Schingoethe as officiants join them on their special day. Nanny the dog will not be in attendance but please do not tell her -- you know how she gets about being left out.

Question

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Answer

The ceremony will begin at 4:30 followed by a cocktail hour before dinner and dancing. We hope to be outdoors along the lake for the ceremony and cocktail hour so if you have an "in" with the weather gods, please feel free to slip them a fiver on our behalf.

Question

What should we wear?

Answer

Clothes, please. While we want all our guests to be comfortable, the boat house is a public place so clothing is required. If it turns out to be a hot August day, please know that the boat house is air conditioned. And no matter what the bride's college friends tell you, the wedding is not "Love Boat" themed attire.

Question

Are there other weekend festivities planned?

Answer

We are honored that some of our guests are traveling from out of state to celebrate with us. And we have no expectation of anyone coming earlier or staying later than they would otherwise plan. However, for our guests who are traveling into town we would love to see any and all of you for a casual dinner Friday evening. If you will be in town and would like to join us, please reach out to either Martin or Kathy as we organize the details.

Question

If we are traveling to the wedding, anything we should know?

Answer

We have put the information about the hotel where the wedding party will be staying in the Travel portion of the website. There is no special block of rooms reserved but there remained plenty of rooms available the last time we checked. There is lots of suburban shopping and chain restaurants near the hotel (don't judge us for no longer being in the city!) And if you really want something to do, as we explained above it is the Glenbard West High School's football home opener Saturday afternoon! There are Ubers if you do not have a car. Just make sure you allow a little extra time for those suburban drivers to pick you up and get you where you need to go!
