We first met while working night shift in the Pediatric CVICU at Memorial Hermann. Miguel’s coffee and Katherine’s Diet Pepsi helped carry us through the long hours, and somewhere in the middle of the busy unit we found an easy friendship. We bonded over bathing babies, caring for patients, and walking with families through some of their most difficult moments. It wasn’t until after we both moved on from the unit that friendship grew into something more, much to the surprise of many of our former coworkers! From sushi dinners to pickleball games, and through countless conversations, we discovered not only the joy of each other’s company but also a shared desire to build a relationship rooted in God’s love. What began as friendship has grown into a deep love that feels like home. Now we look forward with gratitude and excitement to all that lies ahead.

We’ve reserved a block of rooms at The Westin Houston Medical Center / Museum District, where our reception will take place. Staying here makes it easy to celebrate without worrying about extra travel! If you prefer other options, there are also many hotels and Airbnbs nearby in the Museum District.
The Cistern is one of Houston’s hidden gems—an underground reservoir from 1926 that’s now open for tours and art installations. With its towering columns and reflections on the water, it’s unlike anything else in the city. It’s a place that’s become really special to us, and we love sharing it with friends and family. It’s about 6.4 miles from our venue, but we think it’s worth the drive if you have time. Tours do require a reservation, so plan ahead!
The Houston Museum of Natural Science is one of the city’s treasures—and one of Katherine’s favorite places growing up. From the sparkling gems and dinosaurs to the butterfly center and planetarium, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. It’s right next to Hermann Park and very convenient to the reception venue.
Right in the heart of the city, the Houston Zoo is home to over 6,000 animals and sits adjacent to beautiful Hermann Park. Even better, it’s just minutes from our reception venue! It’s a great spot for families, couples, or anyone wanting to enjoy the outdoors in Houston.
Hermann Park is one of Houston’s most beloved green spaces, right next to the Museum District and the Zoo—and also right by the hospital where we first met. It’s only a few minutes from our reception venue, making it an easy and beautiful stop for guests. The park is full of things to do: stroll through the Japanese Garden, visit McGovern Lake, catch a show at Miller Outdoor Theatre, or bring little ones to the playground. For Miguel, the park holds memories of summer nights at the theatre with his family. For Katherine, it’s where she rolled down what might be Houston’s only hill.
The Museum of Fine Arts is one of the largest art museums in the country, with collections that span centuries and cultures—from European masterworks to contemporary installations. It’s one of Miguel’s favorite places in Houston, and we’ve spent several lovely afternoons here together. Located in the Museum District, it’s right by Hermann Park and only a few minutes from our reception venue.
