Every year Dewey’s family takes a trip to the mountains in North Carolina. For the last several years we’ve taken a week off of work and joined them. Every year we went I would make a hint to Dewey about how I would love to get engaged in the mountains and every year he would tell me, “I’m not proposing in the mountains because you’re going to expect it and it won’t be a surprise.” Last October our sweet lab Amos got sick and crossed the rainbow bridge just a few days before we were supposed to leave for the mountains. I originally told Dewey I didn’t want to go because I felt guilty going on vacation after that. Unbeknownst to me I ruined his proposal plan when I said that! The day before we were supposed to go I changed my mind and told him I wanted to go and the race was on after that! He somehow managed to speak with my parents, tell my friends, have my sister take me to get my nails done and come up with a plan with his mom and aunt all within 24 hours! We had dinner reservations with his family that night and when we were getting dressed they told me that we were going to the top of the mountain first because Dewey’s Uncle Steven hadn’t been and they wanted to see it before dinner. I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen when we reached the top. We all took turns taking pictures and after Dewey and I took our picture I turned around and he was down on one knee. I was genuinely so surprised and it was one of the best moments of my life!
