“What does a math professor get in the summer?” “A tan line!” -That was the joke that Ashley sent to Josiah that made their friendship evolve. After many conversations, they discovered that the connections that bound them went beyond their shared passions of art, science and dark humor. As a matter of fact, it would turn out that their relatives migrated to the same area of New Jersey, settled down and were neighbors for many years. These families moved, settled in areas across Pennsylvania, and eventually, Josiah and Ashley met in Bethlehem, connecting those families once again. Their differences and similarities build their bond like a lock and key, where one person’s strengths fill in for the other’s weaknesses. Josiah represented these comparisons when designing Ashley’s engagement ring; which has two beautiful tear drop shaped sapphires, one green and the other yellow, to signify their unique but shared qualities. Josiah proposed in Florence, knowing that Italy is special to Ashley’s heritage. Their home is filled with games, art and collages of memories from their many trips around the world. Though they already consider themselves married, they are excited to celebrate and share this ceremony of unity among their friends and family.
